Negating Present Perfect

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

To negate the present perfect in Bengali, add the negative particle 'নি' (ni) or 'না' (na) after the verb participle.

  • Use the verb stem + 'এছি' (echi) for affirmative, but add 'নি' for negation: 'আমি খাইনি' (I haven't eaten).
  • For formal contexts, use 'করিনি' (haven't done) instead of 'করি নাই'.
  • The negative particle 'নি' is specifically used for completed actions that haven't happened yet.
