تخفیف گرفتن

takhfif gereftan

To get a discount

Significado

To receive a reduction in the usual price of something.

🌍

Contexto cultural

In Iranian bazaars, the first price quoted is rarely the final price. Bargaining is a social expectation. If you don't ask for a discount, you might be overpaying by 20-30%. The seller might say 'Ghabeli nadare' (It's not worthy of you). This is a polite way to start the transaction, but you must still pay and can still ask for a discount after insisting on paying. Similar to Iran, bargaining is common in Afghan markets. The phrase 'Takhfif gereftan' is understood and used in Dari as well. In Tajikistan, while the language is Tajik (a variety of Persian), the influence of the Soviet era means some prices in modern shops are fixed, but in 'Panjshanbe Bazaar', bargaining is king.

🎯

The 'Cash' Trick

If you want to get a better discount, mention you are paying in cash (naghdi). Sellers prefer cash over card payments.

⚠️

Don't be too aggressive

Bargaining should be friendly. If you are too aggressive, the seller might refuse to sell to you at all.
