Wishing someone 'Viel Glück' for their birthday is less common than 'Alles Gute'. However, a very traditional birthday song starts with 'Viel Glück und viel Segen'. In Austria, you might also hear 'Alles Gute' used interchangeably with 'Viel Glück' for exams.
