B1 Passive & Reported Speech 1 min read سهل

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use passive reported speech to focus on the action or the receiver when the source is unknown or unimportant.

  • Use 'di-' verbs for the passive action: 'Dikatakan bahwa...' (It is said that...)
  • Keep the reported clause in the active voice: 'Dikatakan bahwa dia datang' (It is said that he came).
  • Avoid mentioning the agent unless necessary using 'oleh': 'Dikatakan oleh saksi bahwa...' (It is said by the witness that...).
Passive Verb (di- + root) + bahwa + Subject + Verb
