Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Thai, you cannot just say 'three cats'; you must use a classifier: 'cat three [animal-unit]'.
- Structure: Noun + Number + Classifier (e.g., 'cat threeตัว').
- Classifiers are specific to the object type (e.g., 'ตัว' for animals, 'คน' for people).
- For 'one', use 'Noun + Classifier + หนึ่ง' (e.g., 'catตัวหนึ่ง').
Meanings
Thai uses 'classifiers' (ลักษณนาม) to categorize nouns when counting them. You must place the classifier after the number.
