المعنى
A common cultural practice before/after meals.
خلفية ثقافية
The 'duo' is led by the 'oqsoqol' (white beard/elder) if present. It is a sign of deep respect to let the oldest person speak the words. The 'dasturxon' (tablecloth) is never left completely empty. Even during the duo, there is usually bread (non) on the table, as it is considered 'muqaddas' (sacred). While the phrase is used by everyone, the words spoken during the duo are often in a mix of Uzbek and Arabic, asking for 'tinchlik' (peace) and 'omonlik' (well-being). In modern apartments in Tashkent, the ritual is still preserved, though it might be shorter than in rural areas.
Wait for the Elder
If you are with older people, wait for them to say 'Duo qilaylik.' It's their privilege to end the meal.
The 'Omin' timing
Don't say 'Omin' too early. Wait for the person leading the prayer to finish their sentence and start moving their hands toward their face.
