Overview
| The men are tall. |woman | women | o -> i | The woman is reading. | The women are reading. |foot | feet | oo -> ee | My foot hurts. | My feet hurt. |tooth | teeth | oo -> ee | I have one tooth. | I have many teeth. |goose | geese | oo -> ee | Look at the goose. | Look at the geese. |mouse | mice | ou -> i, se -> ce | The mouse is small. | The mice are small. |one man pero two men, nunca two mans. Esta modificación interna señala claramente la pluralidad.-en:-en. Esta terminación era más común en los plurales del inglés antiguo y sobrevive hoy en solo unas pocas palabras de alta frecuencia.child | children | The child is happy.| The children are happy.|ox | oxen | The ox is strong. | The oxen are strong.|child es uno de los plurales irregulares más importantes que debes aprender en A1, ya que children se usa constantemente en la conversación diaria.one, two, many, o some.sheep | sheep | One sheep is in the field.| Two sheep are in the field.|fish | fish | I see one fish. | I see many fish. |deer | deer | The deer is fast. | The deer are fast.|one fish y three fish.
child isplaying outside. (El sujeto singularchildtoma el verbo singularis.) - Plural: The
children areplaying outside. (El sujeto pluralchildrentoma el verbo pluralare.)
- Singular: A
mouse livesin the wall. (El sujeto singularmousetoma el verbo singularlives.) - Plural: Some
mice livein the wall. (El sujeto pluralmicetoma el verbo plurallive.)
cuándo usar estas formas es sencillo: siempre que la cantidad sea mayor que uno.- Referirse a personas: Al hablar de varios individuos, usarás
two men, three women, omany people. Por ejemplo,There were
(Había mucha gente en el concierto anoche.) omany peopleat the concert last night. The team has three
(El equipo tiene tres mujeres.) Estas formas son fundamentales para describir grupos de humanos.womenon it. - Describir partes del cuerpo: Al hablar de pares de partes del cuerpo, los plurales irregulares
feetyteethson esenciales. Por ejemplo,My
(Mis pies están cansados después de la larga caminata.) ofeetare tired after the long walk.I brush my
(Me cepillo los dientes dos veces al día.) Nunca diríasteethtwice a day.footsotooths. - Hablar de animales: Ciertos animales también tienen plurales irregulares, como
sheepyfish(que son plurales cero). Si ves más de uno, sigues usando la misma palabra. Por ejemplo,The farmer has ten
(El granjero tiene diez ovejas en su campo.) osheepin his field.I saw five
(Vi cinco peces en el acuario.) El contexto o los números aclaran la cantidad.fishin the aquarium. - Familia y educación: La palabra
childrenes indispensable al hablar de más de unchild. A menudo escucharás:The
(Los niños están jugando en el parque.) ochildrenare playing in the park.My
(Mis hijos van a la escuela.)childrengo to school.
-s, puede hacer que tu inglés suene menos natural y potencialmente confuso.-s o -es en todas partes. Reconocer estas trampas comunes te ayuda a mejorar rápidamente.- 1Añadir
-sa un plural irregular: Este es el error más común. Puedes añadir-sa palabras comochild, man, foot, otooth, creando formas comochilds, mans, foots, otooths. Esto sucede porque la regla regular del plural con-ses la primera regla que aprendes, y podrías generalizarla en exceso.
- Incorrecto:
I have two
childs. - Correcto:
I have two
(El plural dechildren.childeschildren.) - Incorrecto:
My
footshurt after running. - Correcto:
My
(El plural defeethurt after running.footesfeet.)
- 1Usar la forma singular en contexto plural: Otro error es usar la forma singular cuando se necesita un plural. Esto puede suceder si olvidas que la palabra específica tiene un plural irregular o no eres consciente de que necesita cambiar.
- Incorrecto:
Many
personlike coffee. - Correcto:
Many
(El plural depeoplelike coffee.personespeople.)
- 1Confundir
personypeople: Puedes usarpersonen un contexto plural opeopleincorrectamente. Recuerda, persones siempre singular.Peoplees su plural irregular. Aunquepersonsexiste, es muy formal y generalmente se encuentra solo en documentos legales u oficiales (por ejemplo,No more than five
- No más de cinco personas permitidas en el ascensor.). Para la conversación diaria en A1,personsare allowed in the elevator.peoplees siempre la opción correcta para más de unaperson.
- Incorrecto:
Three
personsare waiting outside. - Correcto:
Three
peopleare waiting outside.
- 1Pronunciación incorrecta de
women: Puedes escribir correctamentewomenpero pronunciarlo mal.
Por ejemplo, There are many people here. (Hay mucha gente aquí.). La palabra persons se usa muy raramente y solo en contextos formales o legales, como en avisos o documentos oficiales.people es la palabra correcta.sheep y fish?one sheep. Si hablas de varios, dices two sheep. Lo mismo ocurre con fish: one fish, many fish. El contexto o los números te dicen si es singular o plural.Common Irregular Plural Patterns

Preguntas frecuentes (8)
English is a mix of languages. 'Man' is an old Germanic word that uses an ancient plural system. 'Pan' is newer and follows the modern 's' rule.
Yes, but only if you are talking about different species of fish (e.g., 'The fishes of the Pacific Ocean'). For eating or counting, use `fish`.
It is plural. You must use `are` or `were`. 'The people are happy.'
The standard plural is `people`. You can use `persons` in very formal or legal writing, but it sounds strange in conversation.
Both `mice` and `mouses` are accepted for technology, but `mice` is more common.
Focus on the sound. 'Woman' (singular) sounds like 'man' at the end. 'Women' (plural) sounds like 'WIM-min'.
The only other common one is `oxen`. Words like `brethren` exist but are very old-fashioned.
In Old English, some nouns didn't have a plural ending. Sheep is one of the few that stayed that way for over 1,000 years!
