main clause(جمله اصلی)، ازPast Modalیعنیwould/could/might + have + past participleاستفاده میکنیم. این بخش نتیجهی احتمالی را نشان میدهد که آن هم در گذشته رخ نداده است.wouldنشاندهندهی نتیجهی منطقی است وhave + V3آن را به گذشته میبرد. بنابراین، وقتی میگوییدI would have helped، یعنی کمک کردن یک نتیجهی فرضی در گذشته بوده که به دلیل محقق نشدن شرط، غیرممکن شده است. این ساختار در فارسی معادلِ «میتوانستم کمک کنم» یا «کمک میکردم» است، اما در انگلیسی، ساختارِwould have + V3یک قالبِ صلب و غیرقابل تغییر است که باید آن را در ذهن داشته باشید.
