The Plural Suffix '-mar' for People
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Malayalam, add '-mar' to the end of a noun to make it plural, but ONLY if it refers to a human.
- Use '-mar' for people: 'kutti' (child) becomes 'kuttikal' (wait, see note) -> 'kuttimar' (children).
- Only for humans: Do not use '-mar' for animals or objects.
- Vowel endings: If a word ends in a vowel, sometimes a connector is needed.
