Egyptians often use 'كاتم على نَفَسي' (pressing on my breath) to describe a suffocating situation or person, which is a more intense variation of 'على أنفاسي'. In the Gulf, the idiom retains its strong connection to sports and traditional racing (camel or horse racing), where commentators use it to describe a 'nose-to-nose' finish.
