Decisions are rarely individual. Even adults often consult their parents before 'taking a decision' about big life changes. Hierarchy is important. While brainstorming is common, the final 'απόφαση' is usually taken by the highest-ranking person. Greeks can spend hours debating a decision (like where to go for coffee) without actually 'taking' one. This is part of the social experience. The term 'απόφαση' is also the official word for a court verdict. In news, you'll hear 'Η απόφαση του δικαστηρίου'.
