एकलौती
How to Use It
एकलौती is specifically used for a single daughter. If you are talking about a single son, you would use इकलौता (iklauta). It is not used for inanimate objects or for 'only' in the sense of 'just' or 'merely.'
A common mistake is using एकलौती for a son. For example, saying वह मेरा एकलौती बेटा है (Vah mera ekalauti beta hai - 'He is my only son') is incorrect. The correct form would be वह मेरा इकलौता बेटा है (Vah mera iklauta beta hai). Another mistake is using it for 'only' in a general sense, like मैं सिर्फ एकलौती पानी चाहता हूँ (Main sirf ekalauti paani chahta hoon - 'I only want water'), which is incorrect. You would use सिर्फ (sirf) or केवल (keval) for that meaning.
Example
वह अपने माता-पिता की एकलौती बेटी है।
