Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Literary style in Indonesian uses full prefixes (me-, ber-) and standard vocabulary to convey professionalism and respect.

  • Always include prefixes like 'me-' or 'ber-' in formal writing: 'Saya membaca buku' (not 'Saya baca buku').
  • Use standard vocabulary instead of slang: 'Tidak' instead of 'Enggak', 'Mengapa' instead of 'Kenapa'.
  • Avoid colloquial particles like 'sih', 'dong', or 'deh' in academic or professional contexts.
