عمرك سألت نفسك ليه ما ينفعش تقول gooder لما تكون سماعاتك الجديدة رهيبة؟ تحسها كلمة بيقولها طفل صغير، صح؟ الإنجليزي بيحب القواعد، بس بيحب يكسرها أكتر.
معظم الصفات بتمشي على نمط -er أو more السهل. بتاخد tall وتخليها taller. وبتاخد expensive وتخليها more expensive.
بسيطة. بس بعدين بيطلع لنا «المتمردين». دول هما صفات المقارنة غير المنتظمة (irregular comparatives).
مابيمشوش مع القطيع. بيغيروا هويتهم بالكامل عشان يدوخوك معاهم. فكر فيهم زي تطور البوكيمون.
Good مش بس بتلبس طاقية؛ دي بتطور لـ better. و Bad مش بس بيزيد لها حرف؛ دي بتتحول لـ worse.
تعلم الكلمات القليلة دي كأنك أخدت تصريح VIP عشان يبان كلامك طبيعي. لو استخدمت gooder أو badder في مقابلة عمل أو في موعد غرامي، ممكن تلاقي نظرات غريبة من اللي قدامك. الكلمات دي من أكتر الكلمات المستخدمة في اللغة الإنجليزية كلها.
بتستخدمها عشان تقيم أفلام على Netflix، وعشان تشتكي من الـ Wi-Fi، وحتى عشان تقرر أنهي عربية Uber هي الأرخص. وعشان هما مستخدمين كتير، قرروا إنهم «أروش» من إنهم يلتزموا بقواعد عادية. النهارده هنبص على الكلمات الأساسية: good و bad و far و little و much/many.
إتقان الكلمات دي هيخلي لغتك الإنجليزية تبدو مصقولة أكتر بـ 10 مرات فوراً. وبالإضافة لكده، أخيراً هتبطل تبان زي شخصية كرتونية بتحاول تتكلم لأول مرة. هي مجموعة كلمات صغيرة بس تأثيرها ضخم على طلاقتك.

كيف تعمل هذه القاعدة

لما بنقارن بين حاجتين، عادةً بنوضح فرق في الجودة أو الكمية. في العادي، بنضيف -er للكلمات القصيرة (fast ← faster). وبنضيف more للكلمات الطويلة (beautiful ← more beautiful).
بس الصفات غير المنتظمة بتطنش الكلام ده خالص. ليها أشكال مقارنة خاصة بيها ومحتاج تحفظها زي ما هي. مفيش منطق أو معادلة سرية هنا.
هو بس مجرد تاريخ «ملخبط».
مثلاً، لو بتقارن بين محلّين بيتزا، مش بتقول إن واحد more good. بتقول إنه better. لو بطارية موبايلك القديم كانت سيئة، والموبايل الجديد بطاريته فيها مشاكل أكتر، بتقول إنها worse. ده تبديل كامل للكلمة. المعنى الأساسي بيفضل زي ما هو، بس شكل الكلمة بيتغير تماماً.
دايماً بنستخدم الكلمات دي مع كلمة than لما نذكر الحاجتين اللي بنقارن بينهم.

الأخطاء الشائعة

أكبر فخ هو «المقارنة المزدوجة» (Double Comparative). وده لما تحاول تكون خدوم زيادة وتضيف more أو -er لكلمة هي أصلاً غير منتظمة.

في غلطة تانية مشهورة وهي badder. في بعض لغات الشارع (زي كلمات الأغاني)، ممكن تسمع badder بمعنى «أقوى» أو «أروش»، بس في الإنجليزي القياسي، دايما بنقول worse. لو عربيتك عطلت، فهي worse من امبارح، مش badder.
اللخبطة بين farther و further شائعة حتى عند اللي لغتهم الأم إنجليزي. في حركة صايعة: farther فيها كلمة far (بعيد)، ودي ليها علاقة بالمسافة المكانية اللي تقدر تقيسها بالمسطرة. further للحاجات اللي ما تتقاسش، زي further discussion (مناقشة إضافية) أو further complications (تعقيدات أكتر).
ما تنساش than. ناس كتير بتستخدم then بالغلط.

مقارنة مع أنماط مشابهة

إزاي دول يتقارنوا بالمقارنات العادية؟ بص، العاديين متوقعين. لو شفت small فإنت عارف إنها smaller. لو شفت beautiful فإنت عارف إنها more beautiful. أما غير المنتظمين فهما «الجوكر». بيغيروا أصل الكلمة كله.
في كمان التباين مع التفضيل (Superlatives). أوعى تلخبط بينهم! المقارنة (Comparatives) بتكون بين حاجتين. التفضيل (Superlatives) بيكون بين تلاتة أو أكتر (أو واحد ضد مجموعة كاملة).

في نمط تاني مشابه وهو استخدام as...as. ده لما تكون الحاجات متساوية.
