المضارع المستمر: النفي والأسئلة (هل أنا أعمل؟)

Mastering Present Continuous negatives and questions makes you a pro at discussing ongoing actions.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

To ask questions, swap 'am/is/are' with the subject; for negatives, add 'not' after the 'be' verb.

  • Questions: Move 'Am/Is/Are' to the front. Example: 'Are you working?'
  • Negatives: Put 'not' after 'Am/Is/Are'. Example: 'I am not working.'
  • Contractions: Use 'isn't' or 'aren't' for natural speech. Example: 'He isn't working.'
❓ [Am/Is/Are] + Subject + Verb-ing? | ❌ Subject + [Am/Is/Are] + not + Verb-ing

I am not eating this!
. ماذا لو رأيت صديقك يأكل شيئاً غريباً؟ يجب أن تسأل،
Are you eating a bug؟
.

2
For Negative Sentences:
3
ابدأ بالـ Subject الخاص بك (I, You, He, She, It, We, They).
4
أضف الصيغة الصحيحة من be (am, is, are).
5
أضف كلمة not.
6
انتهِ بالـ verb + ing.
7
مثال: She + is + not + working. -> She is not working. (أو النسخة الأكثر روعة: She isn't working.)
8
For Question Sentences:
9
ابدأ بصيغة be (Am, Is, Are).
10
أضف الـ Subject.
11
أضف الـ verb + ing.
12
مثال: Are + you + coming؟ -> Are you coming؟ (لا تنسَ علامة الاستفهام، وإلا سيظن الناس أنك تدلي بتصريح غريب جداً).
13
Contractions (الطريقة التي يتحدث بها الناس الحقيقيون):
14
I'm not (لا يوجد شيء اسمه "amn't"، نعتذر!)
15
You aren't أو You're not.
16
He isn't أو He's not.
17
She isn't أو She's not.
18
It isn't أو It's not.
19
We aren't أو We're not.
20
They aren't أو They're not.
21
نصيحة محترف: إذا كنت تراسل نصياً، فإن aren't و isn't هما أعز أصدقائك. استخدام is not كاملة يجعلك تبدو وكأنك والد غاضب جداً أو شبح من العصر الفيكتوري.

متى نستخدمها

ستستخدم هذه الصيغ باستمرار في حياتك الرقمية والواقعية.
  • On Social Media: عندما ترى منشوراً لصديق وتكون مرتبكاً.
    لماذا are أنت wearing ذلك؟
    أو
أنا am not feeling هذا الفلتر الجديد.
  • In the Kitchen: عندما يقوم شخص ما بـ «مساعدتك» في الطبخ.
هل are أنت adding الملح للكعكة؟ أرجوك توقف.
  • During Travel: التحقق من حالة رحلتك على تطبيق ما.
الطائرة is not taking off (لا تقلع) بعد.
  • At Work/University: في مكالمة زووم عندما يتعطل ميكروفون أحدهم.
هل are أنت talking؟ لا أستطيع سماعك!
    أو
أنا am not sharing شاشتي الآن.
  • Texting:

  • The Missing Be: You working؟ (خطأ!) -> Are you working؟ (صح!). لا يمكنك فقط رمي كلمة تنتهي بـ -ing على شخص ما وتأمل في الأفضل. إنها تحتاج لصديقها الـ be.
  • The Missing -ing: Is she work؟ (خطأ!) -> Is she working؟ (صح!). بدون الـ -ing الأمر يشبه سيارة بدون عجلات. لن تذهب إلى أي مكان.
  • The Do Disaster: Do you working؟ (لا!). نستخدم do/does للزمن البسيط Present Simple (الروتين)، وليس للأشياء التي تحدث الآن. ابعد do عن شؤون الـ Present Continuous الخاصة بك. إنه فعل غيور وسيفسد الأجواء.
  • Double Negative: I am not not working. (من الناحية الفنية هي موجودة، لكنها تعني أنك تعمل فعلاً، وستقوم فقط بإرباك مديرك).
  • Forgeting the Question Flip: You are coming؟ (لا بأس بها في رسالة نصية غير رسمية مع علامة استفهام، لكن في اختبار رسمي أو مقابلة حقيقية، تحتاج لقول Are you coming؟).

مقارنة مع أنماط مشابهة

المنافس الأكبر للـ Present Continuous هو الـ Present Simple.
  • Present Simple (Negative/Question): يستخدم للعادات والحقائق. Do you drink coffee؟ تعني «هل هي عادة عامة عندك؟» و I don't drink coffee تعني «أنا لا أفعل ذلك أبداً.»
  • Present Continuous (Negative/Question): يستخدم للآن. Are you drinking coffee؟ تعني «هل هناك كوب في يدك في هذه اللحظة بالذات؟» و I'm not drinking coffee تعني «يدي فارغة حالياً (حتى لو كنت أحب اللاتيه عادة).»
فكر في الـ Present Simple كصفحة ويكيبيديا الخاصة بحياتك (حقائق ثابتة) والـ Present Continuous كقصة إنستغرام (Instagram Story) الخاصة بك (ما يحدث خلال 24 ساعة). إذا سألت شخصاً ما
Do أنت smoke؟
وقال
أنا am not smoking
، فمن المحتمل أنه يمسك سيجارة خلف ظهره ويتعامل بحرفية شديدة. أحدهما عن هويتك، والآخر عن أفعالك الحالية.

أسئلة شائعة

Q

هل يمكنني استخدام "amn't"؟

لا. ببساطة... لا. إنها ليست كلمة. استخدم I'm not. إذا قلت "amn't"، سيفقد عالم لغويات ما في مكان ما أجنحته.

Q

هل هناك فرق بين "She's not« و »She isn't"؟

ليس حقاً. "She's not« أكثر شيوعاً قليلاً في اللغة الإنجليزية المحكية، بينما »She isn't" يمكن أن تبدو أحياناً أكثر توكيداً بقليل.

The 'Be' Rule

Always check for 'am, is, or are'. If you don't have one, it's not a Present Continuous sentence!
⚠️

No 'Do' Support

Never use 'do' or 'does' with -ing verbs. It's a very common mistake that sounds very wrong to native speakers.
🎯

Short Answers

When someone asks 'Are you working?', you don't need to say 'Yes, I am working.' Just say 'Yes, I am.' It sounds much more natural.
💬

Polite Checking

Use 'Are you...?' to check if someone is busy before starting a long conversation. It's very polite in English-speaking cultures.

Smart Tips

Stop! If you see '-ing', you must use 'Am/Is/Are'.

Do you working today? Are you working today?

Use the 'Be' verb from the question in your answer.

Are you coming? Yes, I come. Are you coming? Yes, I am.

Avoid contractions like 'isn't' and use 'is not' instead.

The system isn't working. The system is not working.

Drop the 'g' sound at the end of '-ing' and use 'n'.

What are you doing? What are you doin'?

النطق

Contraction Stress

In negatives, the 'not' part (n't) is often stressed to emphasize the denial.

تحدٍّ

Look around you. Find three things people are NOT doing right now and say them aloud (e.g., 'The cat is not barking').

ملاحظات ثقافية

British speakers often use 'aren't I' as a question tag or in first-person questions, which can be confusing for learners.

In very casual American speech, the 'g' in '-ing' is often dropped (e.g., 'Are you workin'?).

In international meetings, using the Present Continuous for questions is seen as more polite and less aggressive than the Present Simple.

The continuous aspect in English developed from an Old English construction involving a preposition 'on' and a verbal noun.

الأسئلة الشائعة (8)

No, that is incorrect. You should say `Am I not?` (formal) or `Aren't I?` (informal).

It is a strange exception in English! `Aren't I` is the standard contraction for `Am I not` in questions.

In very casual speech, people sometimes drop the 'are', but for learners and in writing, it is better to say `Are you working?`.

`Isn't he` is more common and natural. `Is he not` is very formal or used for emphasis.

No, the main verb always stays in the `-ing` form. Only the verb `be` changes.

Yes! You can say `Are you coming tomorrow?` to ask about future plans.

Drop the 'e' before adding '-ing'. So, `Are you dancing?`.

No, `I aren't` is never correct. Always use `I'm not`.
