-yer في زمن المضارع le présent. قد يبدو الأمر في البداية وكأنه لغز صغير، لكن الحقيقة أنها قاعدة منطقية جداً تهدف لتسهيل النطق.payer (يدفع) و envoyer (يرسل) و nettoyer (ينظف) يومياً في السوق أو عند مراسلة أصدقائك. القاعدة باختصار هي تحويل حرف y إلى i في حالات معينة.y في الفرنسية يعمل كشبه حرف علة، وعندما نضع بعده نهاية صامتة (لا تُنطق)، يصبح النطق ثقيلاً، لذا نستبدله بـ i ليكون الكلام أخف وأوضح. هذا يشبه إلى حد ما «العلل» في اللغة العربية، حيث تتغير حروف العلة (ألف، واو، ياء) في الأفعال المعتلة (مثل: قال - يقول) لتسهيل النطق.-yer، نحن أمام حالتين صوتيتين:- 1النهايات الصامتة: عندما نصرف الفعل مع الضمائر
je,tu,il,elle,on,ils,elles، تكون النهايات صامتة (لا تُنطق). هنا، يشعر الفعل بـ «الخطر» من أن يختفي الصوت، فيقوم بتحويل الـyإلىiليصبح النطق أوضح. - 2النهايات المنطوقة: مع الضمائر
nousوvous، النهايات (-onsو-ez) لها صوت واضح وقوي، لذا لا نحتاج لتغيير الـy؛ فهو يبقى كما هو.
