Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

First conjugation verbs use the vowel 'e' in their endings, except for the 'I' (я) and 'they' (они) forms.

  • Identify the stem by removing the infinitive ending -ть.

How This Grammar Works

En ruso, el verbo te dice quién es el sujeto, incluso si omites el pronombre. Si ves la terminación -ешь, sabes que alguien está hablando con un amigo. Si ves -ют, es un grupo de personas.
Por eso los rusos a menudo omiten el Я o el Ты en los mensajes de texto: la terminación hace todo el trabajo pesado. A diferencia del inglés, el ruso no tiene una forma separada para el estoy haciendo. Я читаю significa tanto leo (habitualmente) como estoy leyendo (en este preciso momento).

Formation Pattern

Politeness Levels

El ruso es muy específico sobre la jerarquía social. Usar la forma incorrecta puede hacerte sonar como un extraño grosero o un robot excesivamente formal.

** Usa la terminación -ешь con amigos, familia, niños y mascotas.

- **Formal (Вы)

** Usa la terminación -ете con jefes, profesores, desconocidos o cualquier persona mayor que tú.

- **Contexto social

The 'E' Rule

If you see an 'е' in the ending (like -ешь, -ет), you are almost certainly looking at a First Conjugation verb.
