Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The '-ss' particle highlights a contrast or shifts the topic to a new subject, similar to 'as for' in English.
- Use '-ss' to contrast two items: 'እኔ ግን እሄዳለሁ፣ አንተስ?' (I am going, but what about you?)
- Use it to shift the topic: 'ስለ ምግብ እናውራ። ስለ ሙዚቃስ?' (Let's talk about food. What about music?)
- Attach it directly to the end of nouns or pronouns: 'እኔ' becomes 'እኔስ'.
