Definite Article with Adjectives
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Bulgarian, the definite article attaches to the first adjective in a phrase, not the noun itself.
- If a noun has an adjective, the article goes on the adjective: 'хубавата къща' (the beautiful house).
- If there are multiple adjectives, the article attaches to the first one: 'голямата хубава къща'.
- The noun itself remains without an article if an adjective is present.
Meanings
The definite article in Bulgarian is a suffix. When an adjective modifies a noun, the article moves from the noun to the first adjective.
