Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'не' before the past form of 'to be' to say something hadn't happened before another past event.
- Place 'не' directly before the auxiliary verb 'бях' (e.g., 'не бях чел').
- The main verb stays as an -л participle and must agree in gender/number (чел/чела/чело/чели).
- Short pronouns (clitics) usually sit between 'не' and the auxiliary or after the auxiliary.
