Subjunctive in Indirect Commands
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the subjunctive (often with 'որ') to report commands or requests indirectly in Armenian.
- Use 'ասել' (to say) or 'խնդրել' (to ask) + 'որ' + subjunctive verb.
- The verb in the subjunctive clause expresses the desired action.
- Negative commands use 'չ' before the verb: 'Նա ասաց, որ չգնամ' (He said that I should not go).

Meanings
This structure is used to report an order, request, or suggestion given by someone else.
Reported Request
Reporting a polite request.
“Նա ասաց, որ օգնեմ իրեն։”
“Մայրիկս խնդրեց, որ շուտ տուն գամ։”

Reporting a direct order or instruction.
“Հրամանատարը հրամայեց, որ զինվորները կանգնեն։”
“Նա պահանջեց, որ ճշմարտությունը ասեմ։”
