🎯

The Comma is Non-Negotiable

Always put a comma after 'Namun', 'Oleh karena itu', and 'Selain itu'. It signals the logical pause and makes your writing look professional.

🎯

The Power of Three

Group your points in threes (e.g., 'Maju, Jaya, Sejahtera'). It creates a rhythmic cadence that is very pleasing in Indonesian oratory.

The '-lah' Secret

If you invert a sentence, always add '-lah' to the verb. Without it, you sound like a non-native speaker making a mistake; with it, you sound like a poet.

At C2, simple 'harus' (must) and 'bagus' (good) sound too blunt and childish. Use 'seyogianya' (it is advisable) and 'kemaslahatan' (common good) for better persuasion.

Wrong: Kita harus melakukan ini karena ini bagus.
صحیح: Seyogianya kita melakukan ini demi kemaslahatan bersama.

Starting a formal argument with 'Tapi' (But) is too informal. 'Kendatipun demikian' provides a much more professional transition.

Wrong: Tapi, kita juga perlu uang.
صحیح: Kendatipun demikian, aspek finansial tetap menjadi pertimbangan utama.

In a formal speech (oratory), 'Halo teman-teman' is inappropriate. Use proper honorifics and 'memaparkan' (to present/elaborate).

Wrong: Halo teman-teman, saya mau bicara soal air.
صحیح: Hadirin sekalian, izinkan saya memaparkan urgensi krisis air ini.

سوالات رایج (6)

It depends on the register. With friends, it's friendly and persuasive. With a boss, it's considered very rude and unprofessional.
'Tolong' is for general help, while 'mohon' is for formal requests or when there is a power imbalance (e.g., asking a deity or a high official).
Absolutely not. Use Bapak dan Ibu or Hadirin sekalian. Kamu is far too intimate and would be considered disrespectful in a public speaking context.
In a strictly secular or international context, you can use a more neutral opening like Saya merasa sangat terhormat.... However, in most local Indonesian settings, a general Puji syukur ke hadirat Tuhan is seen as a cultural protocol rather than a strictly religious one.
