Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To make a noun plural in Kazakh, add -lar, -ler, -dar, -der, -tar, or -ter based on the word's final sound.
- Use -lar/-ler after vowels and soft consonants (e.g., bala -> balalar).
- Use -dar/-der after voiced consonants like 'z' or 'n' (e.g., qyz -> qyzdar).
- Use -tar/-ter after voiceless consonants like 'p', 'k', 't' (e.g., kitap -> kitaptar).
Meanings
The plural suffix indicates that there is more than one of the noun being described. It is mandatory in Kazakh when a specific quantity is implied.
