Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To ask for directions in Lao, place the question word 'ຢູ່ໃສ' (where) at the end of your sentence.
- Use 'ຢູ່ໃສ' (yùu sǎi) at the end of a sentence to ask 'Where is...?'
- Add 'ຂໍໂທດ' (khǒo thôot) at the start to be polite.
- Use 'ໄປ...ແນວໃດ' (pai...nɛɛw dǎi) to ask 'How do I get to...?'

Easily Confused
Both mean 'where', but 'ຢູ່ໃສ' is for location and 'ບ່ອນໃດ' is for 'which place'.
One asks for directions (how to go), the other asks for location (where it is).
