Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Bulgarian verbs come in pairs: imperfective (process) and perfective (result).

  • Use imperfective for ongoing actions: 'Чета книга' (I am reading a book).
  • Use perfective for completed results: 'Прочетох книгата' (I read the book).
  • Perfective verbs often add a prefix to the imperfective root: 'пиша' -> 'напиша'.

Verb aspect describes whether an action is viewed as an ongoing process or a completed, bounded event.
