Adverbs of Manner (Начини)

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Adverbs of manner describe how an action is performed and usually look exactly like the neuter singular form of adjectives.

  • Rule 1: Take the neuter singular adjective (ending in -o) to form the adverb. Example: 'бавен' -> 'бавно'.
  • Rule 2: Place the adverb usually after the verb or at the end of the phrase. Example: 'Той тича бързо'.
  • Rule 3: The word 'добре' (well) is the most common irregular adverb, coming from 'добър' (good).
Verb + Adjective (Neuter/-o) 🏃‍♂️ + 💨 = Бързо

⚠️

Don't Agree!

Never change the adverb to match the person. It's always 'бързо', never 'бърза' or 'бързи' when describing an action.
🎯

The 'Well' Exception

Memorize 'добре' immediately. It's the most used adverb and the most common irregular one.
💬

Repetition

Той пее добро. Той пее добре.

Keep the adverb ending in -o. Don't change it to -а.

Тя тича бърза. Тя тича бързо.

Repeat the adverb with a hyphen.

Place it immediately before the adverb.
