Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

For neuter nouns ending in -о or -е, change the ending to -а or -я to make them plural.

  • Nouns ending in -о become -а: 'село' (village) → 'села' (villages).
  • Nouns ending in -е become -я: 'море' (sea) → 'морета' (Wait, check exceptions! Most become -ета).
  • Actually, most neuter nouns ending in -е take the suffix -ета: 'дете' (child) → 'деца' (children).
