Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Polysyndeton is the deliberate repetition of conjunctions in a list to create rhythm, emphasis, or a sense of overwhelming abundance.
- Use it for dramatic effect: 'Er war müde und hungrig und erschöpft.'
- Avoid it in standard business prose; it is a stylistic, not a functional, choice.
- Ensure the repeated conjunction matches the tone: 'und' for addition, 'oder' for alternatives.
Overview
Ich esse die Suppe, den Salat und das Dessert.）は、読点（コンマ）を使って効率的に情報を伝えます。しかし、Polysyndetonは、この効率性を捨てます。すべての要素の間に und や oder を挟むことで、リズムが一定になり、一つ一つの単語が独立して強調されます。undを使う場合：列挙されたすべての要素が「漏れなく、すべて重要である」という印象を与えます。例えば、「私は財布と鍵とスマホとパスポートを忘れた」と言うとき、Ich habe die Geldbörse und den Schlüssel und das Handy und den Reisepass vergessen.と言うと、一つ一つを思い出しながら、その多さに困惑している感情が伝わります。oderを使う場合：選択肢の多さを強調します。「コーヒーか、紅茶か、水か、ジュースか…」と迷っているとき、Möchtest du den Kaffee oder den Tee oder das Wasser oder den Saft?と言うと、選択肢が次々と提示されるような感覚になります。

- 1コンマを混ぜてしまう：日本語では「A、B、そしてC」と書く習慣があるため、つい
A, und B, und Cと書いてしまいます。これはドイツ語では文法的に矛盾しています。Polysyndetonを使うときは、コンマをすべて取り除いてください。 - 2冠詞を省略してしまう：日本語の「リンゴとバナナとオレンジ」には冠詞がありませんが、ドイツ語では冠詞が重要です。
Ich brauche Brot und Milch und Käseと言うよりも、Ich brauche das Brot und die Milch und den Käseと言う方が、一つ一つの物の存在感が際立ちます。特にA1レベルでは、冠詞の練習としてあえてすべて付けることをお勧めします。 - 3文脈を無視して使いすぎる：この技法は「強調」です。日常の些細な買い物リストで毎回使うと、少し大げさに聞こえてしまいます。強調したい時と、普通に伝えたい時を使い分けましょう。
