Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'wohl' to express a high degree of probability or a polite assumption about a situation you aren't 100% sure about.
- Use 'wohl' to guess: 'Er ist wohl zu Hause' (He is probably at home).
- Use 'wohl' to express uncertainty in questions: 'Ist er wohl schon da?' (I wonder if he is there yet?).
- Place 'wohl' after the conjugated verb or pronoun, usually early in the middle field.
