Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Third Conditional to talk about past regrets or missed opportunities by pairing the Plus-Que-Parfait with the Conditionnel Passé.

Overview
plus-que-parfait（大過去）と conditionnel passé（過去条件法）という二つの複雑な時制を組み合わせる必要があります。この文法は、単なる知識ではなく、フランス人が日常会話で「あの時こうしていればよかった」と愚痴をこぼしたり、あるいは「もしあの電車に乗っていなかったら…」と安堵したりする際に頻繁に登場する、非常に人間味のある表現です。B1レベルの皆さんにとって、この表現を使いこなせるようになることは、感情の機微をフランス語で伝えるための大きな一歩となります。si節）」、後半は「帰結節（結果）」です。日本語の文法で言うと、si節は「もし～していたら」、帰結節は「～しただろうに」に対応します。ここでのポイントは、両方の節が「過去の事実に対する反事実」を扱っているため、どちらも「過去」の形をとる必要がある点です。plus-que-parfait（大過去）を使います。これは、結果が起こるよりもさらに前に完了していなければならない条件を指すためです。次に、帰結節には conditionnel passé（過去条件法）を使います。これは「もし～という条件が満たされていれば、～という結果が発生しただろう」という、実際には起こらなかった結果を仮定する形です。日本語の「～だったのに」「～しただろうに」という推量・後悔のニュアンスを、フランス語ではこの動詞の形そのものに込めるのです。例えば、「もし勉強していたら、合格していたのに」という文は、フランス語では「勉強していた（過去）」という条件と「合格していた（過去）」という結果がセットで表現されます。日本語では「合格した」という形が変わらないこともありますが、フランス語では時制の組み合わせが非常に厳密です。avoir か être の助動詞を正しく使い分け、過去分詞を組み合わせる必要があります。以下の表を参考にしてください。si + plus-que-parfait (avoir/êtreの半過去 + 過去分詞) | もし～していたら |conditionnel passé (avoir/êtreの条件法現在 + 過去分詞) | ～しただろうに |Si j'avais su, je serais venu.(もし知っていたら、来ていたのに。)Si tu avais pris ton parapluie, tu n'aurais pas été mouillé.(もし傘を持っていれば、濡れなかったのに。)Si elle était partie plus tôt, elle aurait attrapé le train.(もし彼女がもっと早く出発していれば、電車に乗れていただろう。)
si の後ろに j'aurais などと条件法を入れてしまうのです。これをフランス語では「si は rai を嫌う」という有名な格言で戒めます。si の後ろには必ず半過去（avais や étais）を置くというルールを徹底してください。être を助動詞に取る動詞（移動動詞や代名動詞）での性数一致です。je が女性であれば restée となり、nous が複数であれば arrivés となります。日本語には性別による語尾変化がないため、つい忘れがちです。si + il の縮約です。si il と書くのは文法的に誤りで、必ず s'il としなければなりません。これは日本語の母音連続の回避（「あおい」など）とは異なり、フランス語特有の音のつながりを重視したルールですので、しっかり覚えましょう。si と passé composé を混ぜることはできますか？si 節は仮定の話なので、事実を述べる passé composé とは相性が悪いです。passé composé と同じです。移動動詞（aller, venir など）や代名動詞は être、それ以外は avoir を使います。Si j'avais étudié, je serais médecin. となります。これは上級者向けの表現ですが、非常に実用的です。J'aurais dû... との組み合わせで、愚痴や反省を語る際に非常に頻繁に使われます。Third Conditional Formation
