Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'Понеже' to provide a reason or justification, often placed at the start of a sentence for emphasis.
- Use 'понеже' to mean 'since' or 'because': 'Понеже валеше, останахме вкъщи.' (Since it rained, we stayed home.)
- Always use a comma to separate the 'понеже' clause from the main clause.

Both mean 'because'. Learners often use 'защото' at the start of a sentence, which sounds unnatural.
