Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Kazakh vowels are divided into 'Back' and 'Front' groups, and words must stick to one group to sound natural.

  • Back vowels (а, о, ұ, ы) stay together in a word: 'бала' (child).
  • Front vowels (ә, ө, ү, і, е) stay together in a word: 'көше' (street).
  • Suffixes change their vowels to match the root word's group.
