Formação de palavras em russo: prefixos e sufixos

Think of word formation as a toolkit for building complex meanings from simple, recognizable roots.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Russian words are like Lego bricks: you add prefixes to change meaning and suffixes to change the part of speech.

  • Prefixes usually change the meaning of a verb (e.g., 'идти' to 'прийти').
  • Suffixes usually change the grammatical category, like turning a verb into a noun (e.g., 'читать' to 'читатель').
  • Roots remain the core meaning, while affixes act as the modifiers.
Prefix + Root + Suffix = New Meaning

Overview

As palavras russas são basicamente conjuntos de LEGO. Começas com uma raiz pequena. Depois, encaixas prefixos e sufixos.
De repente, uma palavra torna-se vinte. Este é o segredo para pareceres um nativo. Não precisas de um vocabulário massivo.
Só precisas de saber como construir. Pensa numa raiz como чит (ler). Adiciona про- e é 'terminar de ler'.
Adiciona -тель e é 'um leitor'.

How This Grammar Works

Pensa na raiz como o ADN. O prefixo é o 'modificador'. O sufixo é o 'rótulo'. Olha para a raiz ход (ir/mover). Esta raiz é uma lenda. Adiciona вы- (fora) e obténs выход (saída). Adiciona в- (dentro) e obténs вход (entrada). Adiciona пере- (atravessar) e obténs переход (travessia).

Formation Pattern

1
Encontra a Raiz: O coração da palavra.
2
Escolhe um Prefixo: Decide a direção ou o aspeto.
3
Aplica um Sufixo: Decide que tipo de palavra queres.
4
Verifica a Terminação: Não te esqueças das terminações de caso!

When To Use It

Usa isto quando quiseres ser preciso. Palavras padrão são boas para o nível A1. No B1, precisas de nuances. Usa prefixos para mostrar exatamente como um verbo aconteceu. Apenas 'leste' o livro ou 'leste-o até ao fim' (прочитать)?

Common Mistakes

Não abuses dos prefixos. Alguns alunos tentam adicionar três prefixos a uma palavra. Isto não é alemão; relaxa. Normalmente, um ou dois é o limite. Atenção também à 'queda de vogais'.

Contrast With Similar Patterns

Prefixos vs. Preposições. Esta é a grande batalha. Um prefixo faz parte da palavra (вход). Uma preposição é uma palavra separada (в дом). Muitas vezes parecem idênticos.

Quick FAQ

Q

Posso inventar palavras com isto?

Mais ou menos! Os russos fazem-no a toda a hora.

Q

Qual é o prefixo mais comum?

По- é o rei. Geralmente significa fazer algo por um bocadinho.

Q

Os prefixos mudam sempre o aspeto?

Na maioria das vezes, sim. Transformam frequentemente um verbo imperfeito num perfeito.

The 'Aspect' Shortcut

If you see a prefix on a basic verb, it's 90% likely to be Perfective. This is a huge help for choosing the right tense!
⚠️

The Vowel Drop

Watch out for 'fleeting vowels.' Words like рынок (market) lose the 'о' when you add endings: рынка. This happens a lot with -ок and -ек suffixes.
💬

Over-Cuteness

Don't use diminutive suffixes (-ик, -ка) in business meetings. It can sound condescending or unprofessional. Save them for friends, kids, and pets!

Smart Tips

Look for the root to understand the meaning.

I don't know what 'записать' means. I know 'писать' is write, so 'записать' is to write down.

Use diminutives to sound more natural.

Дай мне кофе. Дай мне кофеёк.

Identify the prefix to guess the aspect.

I am confused by the verb tense. The prefix 'про-' makes it perfective.

Use abstract noun suffixes like '-ость'.

Он был настойчив. Он проявил настойчивость.
