Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use this to talk about past events that didn't happen by combining the past perfect subjunctive and the past conditional.
- If-clause uses Trapassato Congiuntivo: 'Se avessi saputo...' (If I had known...)
- Main clause uses Condizionale Passato: '...sarei venuto.' (...I would have come.)
- Both parts refer to a past that cannot be changed.
