文化背景

In Myanmar, driving is often seen as a communal activity. It's common for drivers to stop and help others with car trouble, reflecting the value of 'Say-da-na' (goodwill). Yangon has a ban on motorcycles in most townships, making 'Kar Maung Tal' the dominant form of private transport compared to other cities like Mandalay. In villages, the word 'Maung' is still used for driving 'Hta-lar-gyi' (hand-tractors), which are the backbone of the rural economy. When driving, it is polite to flash your lights or give a short honk to acknowledge other drivers, especially on narrow roads.
