تا حالا شده از پنجره بیرون نگاه کنی، بارون رو ببینی و با خودت فکر کنی چطور باید این رو به انگلیسی بگی؟ شاید بخوای بگی Raining (باریدن)، اما معلم انگلیسیت احتمالا یه جوری بهت نگاه می‌کنه. تو انگلیسی، جمله‌ها مثل مهمونی‌های شام معذب‌کننده‌ان—همه باید یه صندلی داشته باشن.
هر جمله‌ای یه فاعل لازم داره. اما اگه هیچ آدم یا چیزی نباشه که اون کار رو انجام بده چی؟ اگه فقط بخوای راجع به آب و هوا، زمان، یا این واقعیت که یه پیتزای غول‌پیکر روی میزه حرف بزنی چی؟
اینجاست که قهرمان‌های ما it و there وارد میشن. به اینا اغلب dummy subjects (فاعل‌های ظاهری) یا empty subjects (فاعل‌های پوچ) میگن. اون‌ها واقعاً به یه آدم خاص اشاره نمی‌کنن.
فقط جا رو پر می‌کنن تا جمله کله‌پا نشه. بهشون مثل اون کادرهای «در حال بارگذاری» (placeholder) تو اپلیکیشن مورد علاقه‌ت نگاه کن که قبل از لود شدن محتوای اصلی میان. ما از it برای چیزایی مثل آب و هوا، زمان و مسافت استفاده می‌کنیم.
از there استفاده می‌کنیم تا به بقیه بگیم یه چیزی وجود داره. اگه بتونی استاد این دو تا بشی، خیلی طبیعی‌تر به نظر میای. بدون اون‌ها، شبیه یه ربات خراب به نظر میرسی.
"Is 5 o'clock«؟ نوچ. »It is 5 o'clock." خیلی بهتر شد.
حتی ربات‌ها هم گاهی وقت‌ها از یه جایگزین خوب خوششون میاد.

قواعد ترتیب کلمات

انگلیسی خیلی روی اینکه کلمه‌ها کجا قرار بگیرن سخت‌گیره. از الگوی فاعل-فعل-مفعول (SVO) پیروی می‌کنه. وقتی از it و there استفاده می‌کنیم، اون‌ها جایگاه فاعل (Subject) رو می‌گیرن.
  • برای it: الگو اینطوریه: It + is (یا was) + [صفت/اسم/زمان].
  • برای there: الگو اینطوریه: There + is (مفرد) یا are (جمع) + [اسم].
دقت کن که it تقریباً همیشه از فعل مفرد is استفاده می‌کنه. هیچ‌وقت نمی‌گی it are. این کار مثل سعی کردن برای جا دادن یه مکعب تو یه سوراخ گرده—هم دردناکه هم غلط.
اما There یه کم انعطاف‌پذیرتره. بر اساس چیزی که داری راجع بهش حرف می‌زنی تغییر می‌کنه. اگه یه دونه تاکو (Taco) وجود داشته باشه، میشه there is.
اگه ده تا تاکو باشه (خوش به حالت!)، میشه there are. تو پیام دادن‌های امروزی، مردم اغلب اینا رو کوتاه می‌کنن. It is میشه It's.
There is میشه There's. حتی برای چیزای جمع، بعضی‌ها تو حرف زدن‌های خیلی خودمونی میگن There's، اما تو امتحان‌هات به همون There are بچسب. اتوکورکت گوشیت شاید براش مهم نباشه، اما معلمت قطعاً براش مهمه.

این گرامر چطور کار می‌کنه

it رو مثل یه نشانگر برای شرایط کلی در نظر بگیر. «وایب» (vibe) یا حال و هوای دنیا رو تو اون لحظه توصیف می‌کنه. خورشید بیرونه؟
It is sunny. دیره؟ It is 11 PM.
تا باشگاه راه زیادیه؟ It is 3 miles. تو نمی‌گی «آسمون» آفتابیه؛ داری می‌گی وضعیت کلی چیزمیزها آفتابیه.
مثل تنظیمات پس‌زمینه (background) گوشیت می‌مونه. از اون طرف، there مثل یه نورافکنه. به یه شیء اشاره می‌کنه و می‌گه: "هی!
نگاه کن! این چیز وجود داره!« وقتی یخچالت رو باز می‌کنی و هیچی جز یه شیشه خیارشور تنها نمی‌بینی، می‌گی »There is a jar of pickles." تو داری یخچال رو توصیف نمی‌کنی؛ داری اعلام می‌کنی که خیارشور اونجا حضور داره.
  • It: وضعیت رو توصیف می‌کنه (زمان، آب و هوا، مسافت، هویت).
  • There: وجود داشتن رو اعلام می‌کنه (آدم‌ها، اشیاء، مکان‌ها).

ساختن این جمله‌ها به آسونی سفارش دادن قهوه با یه اپلیکیشنه‌. فقط این مراحل رو دنبال کن:

dummy (فاعل نمایشی) خودت رو انتخاب کن: برای آب و هوا/زمان/مسافت از it استفاده کن. برای وجود داشتن از there.

شکل درست to be رو انتخاب کن: معمولاً is یا are.

تغییرات الگو

ما همیشه از زمان حال استفاده نمی‌کنیم. گاهی وقتا لازمه راجع به پیاده‌روی بارونی دیروز یا مهمونی فردا حرف بزنی.
  • Past Tense (زمان گذشته): It was cold. There was a mistake. There were many people.
  • Negatives (منفی‌ها): It isn't (یا It's not) early. There aren't any cookies left. (شکلک غمگین).
  • Questions (سوالی‌ها): Is it far? Are there any seats in the cinema?
  • Distance (مسافت): It is 10 kilometers to the airport.
  • Identification (شناسایی): وقتی کسی در میزنه، می‌گی "It's me!« یا »Who is it?"
تو کپشن‌های شبکه‌های اجتماعی، خیلی It's giving... (اصطلاح امروزی) یا There's literally no way... رو می‌بینی. همه‌ی اینا از همون قوانین پایه استفاده می‌کنن. حتی اگه اصطلاحات تغییر کنن، it و there ثابت می‌مونن. اونا بازماندگان واقعی زبان انگلیسی‌ان.

اشتباهات رایج

  1. 1فراموش کردن فاعل: خیلی از زبان‌آموزها میگن Is raining یا Is hot today. یادت باشه: فاعل نباشه، جمله بی جمله! همیشه بگو It is raining.
  2. 2قاطی کردن It و There: نگو
    It is a cat on the bed.
    از There is a cat on the bed استفاده کن. فقط وقتی از it استفاده کن که قبلاً به گربه اشاره کرده باشی (مثلاً
