تا حالا شده حس کنی انگلیسی‌ت یه کم شبیه ربات‌های سال ۱۹۹۵ به نظر میاد؟ می‌خوای بگی برای سفر آخر هفته یا یه سریال جدید نتفلیکس هیجان‌زده‌ای، اما به جاش از همون عبارت‌های خسته‌کننده همیشگی استفاده می‌کنی. اینجاست که عبارت look forward to وارد میشه.
این یکی از کاربردی‌ترین اصطلاحات در زبان انگلیسیه. بهت کمک می‌کنه انتظار و حس مثبتت رو بیان کنی. با این حال، یه تله‌ی کوچیک و زیرکانه توش پنهان شده.
بیشتر مردم فکر می‌کنن کلمه‌ی to همیشه به یه فعل ساده ختم میشه. مثلاً مثل I want to eat. اما اینجا، to در واقع یه حرف اضافه (preposition) است.
این یعنی رفتارش فرق می‌کنه. اون یه اسم یا یه دوست اسم‌مانند می‌خواد. اون دوست، اسم مصدر (gerund) یا همون حالت verb + ing است.
استفاده درست از این عبارت، حرفه‌ای‌ها رو از مبتدی‌ها جدا می‌کنه. این همون تفاوت بین یه ایمیل روان و یه ایمیل ناشیانه‌ست. بهش به عنوان یه راه «باحال» برای ابراز هیجان نگاه کن.
فقط اجازه نده اون to گول‌ت بزنه تا یه اشتباه ناشیانه بکنی. حتی نیتیو اسپیکرها هم گاهی وقتی توی واتس‌اپ تند تایپ می‌کنن، اینجا سوتی می‌دن. پس اگه همیشه برات سوال بوده چرا معلمت توی انشاهات دور to خط می‌کشید، دلیلش همینه.

این گرامر چطور کار می‌کنه

راز این قانون در درک کلمه‌ی to نهفته است. در انگلیسی، to دو هویت متفاوت داره. گاهی فقط یه نشونه برای فعل مصدره.
وقت‌های دیگه، یه حرف اضافه است. حرف اضافه رو مثل یه پل تصور کن. اون یه عمل رو به یه چیز وصل می‌کنه.
وقتی می‌گی look forward to ، داری هیجانت رو به سمت «یه چیزی» نشونه می‌ری. اون «یه چیز» باید اسم باشه. از اونجایی که ما می‌خوایم از یه عمل (فعل) استفاده کنیم، باید اون عمل رو به اسم تبدیل کنیم.
این کار رو با اضافه کردن ing انجام می‌دیم. این کار see رو به seeing تبدیل می‌کنه. حالا seeing به عنوان اسمِ یه فعالیت عمل می‌کنه.
دیگه فقط یه کاری نیست که انجام می‌دی، بلکه اون «چیزی» هست که منتظرشی. مثل این می‌مونه که اسم یه فیلم رو به یه اسم تبدیل کنی. اسم مصدر دقیقاً همین کار رو می‌کنه.
جوهره‌ی عمل رو می‌گیره و ثابت نگهش می‌داره. این به حرف اضافه‌ی to اجازه می‌ده که بهش بچسبه. اگه از فعل ساده استفاده کنی، پل فرو می‌ریزه.
گرامر از هم می‌پاشه. برای گوش یه نیتیو، این ناقص یا یه کم «عجیب» به نظر میاد. تصور کن بخوای با چنگال سوپ بخوری؛ شاید یه کم گیرت بیاد، اما ابزار مناسبی برای این کار نیست.

ساختن این ساختار مثل دنبال کردن یه دستور پخت ساده‌ست. فقط باید ترتیب رو رعایت کنی.

یادت باشه، to بخشی از عبارته. باهاش مثل بخشی از فعل برخورد نکن. اگه بگی I look forward to to meeting ، یه دونه to زیادی گذاشتی! مثل این می‌مونه که روی یه سر، دو تا کلاه بذاری. خنده‌دار به نظر میاد و سنگینی می‌کنه. می‌تونی به جای اسم مصدر از یه اسم ساده هم استفاده کنی. جمله I look forward to the weekend کاملاً درسته. اسم مصدر فقط «نسخه‌ی فعلی» یه اسمه.

این الگو رو همه جای زندگی مدرن پیدا می‌کنی. این پادشاه ایمیل‌های کاریه. وقتی یه مصاحبه‌ی زوم رو تموم می‌کنی، می‌نویسی: I look forward to hearing from you.
این مؤدبانه و مشتاقانه به نظر میاد. توی زندگی روزمره، برای کپشن‌های سوشال مدیا عالیه. داری عکس بلیت هواپیما می‌ذاری؟
از Looking forward to exploring Tokyo! استفاده کن. برای گیمینگ هم جواب می‌ده. منتظر یه DLC جدیدی؟
به دوستات توی دیسکورد بگو: I'm looking forward to playing the new map. برای اپلیکیشن‌های دیتینگ هم عالیه. به جای اینکه بگی «می‌خوام ببینمت»، بگو I'm looking forward to seeing you.
حس صمیمی‌تر و ملایم‌تری داره. نشون می‌ده که نگاه مثبتی داری. داری به یه آینده‌ی روشن نگاه می‌کنی.
توی ولاگ‌های سفر هم خیلی رایجه. تولیدکننده‌های محتوا معمولاً می‌گن: We are looking forward to showing you this hidden gem. هر وقت خواستی نشون بدی چیزی در آینده خوشحالت می‌کنه، ازش استفاده کن.
این عبارت فاصله‌ی بین «الان» و «اون موقع» رو پر می‌کنه. این معادل زبانیِ همون تایمر معکوس روی گوشیتونه.

اشتباهات رایج

اشتباه شماره ۱، استفاده از فعل ساده‌ست. مردم می‌گن: I look forward to meet you. این «تله‌ی مرگ» گرامر انگلیسیه. به خاطر عبارت‌هایی مثل I want to meet you طبیعی به نظر میاد. اما یادت باشه، look forward to یه کلوب خاصه. شرایط ورودش سخته. فقط اسم و اسم مصدر اجازه ورود دارن! یه اشتباه دیگه اینه که to رو کلاً یادت بره. I look forward meeting you طوری به نظر میاد که انگار یه تیکه از بدنت کمه! خیلی ناشیانه‌ست. بعضی زبان‌آموزها هم وقتی هنوز هیجان دارن، سعی می‌کنن از زمان گذشته looked forward to استفاده کنن. اگه اتفاق هنوز نیفتاده، توی زمان حال بمون. از look یا am looking استفاده کن. همچنین حواست به املای اسم مصدر باشه. یادت نره اگه لازمه حروف بی‌صدا رو دوبار بنویسی (مثل: getting ، running). در نهایت، این رو با looking for اشتباه نگیر. اون یعنی دنبال کلیدات می‌گردی. Looking forward to یعنی برای آینده هیجان داری. اشتباه گرفتن این دو تا ممکنه باعث بشه مکالمه‌های خیلی عجیبی پیش بیاد. تصور کن به رئیست بگی داری دنبال جلسه‌ت «می‌گردی» (looking for) به جای اینکه بگی «منتظرشی» (looking forward to). یکی‌ش منظم به نظر میاد، اون یکی طوریه که انگار توی راهروها گم شدی و داری می‌چرخی!

مقایسه با الگوهای مشابه

این با want to یا hope to چه فرقی داره؟ اون‌ها از مصدر با to استفاده می‌کنن. I want to go یه خواسته‌ی مستقیمه.
I look forward to going یه حالت از انتظاره. Want در مورد هدفه، اما Look forward to در مورد حس انتظار کشیدنه. مثل تفاوت بین گرسنه بودن و لذت بردن از بوی غذاییه که داره می‌پزه.
همچنین تفاوتی بین حالت ساده و استمراری وجود داره. I look forward to... یه کم رسمی‌تره و توی نامه‌های کاری دیده میشه. I am looking forward to... شخصی‌تره و توی صحبت کردن رایج‌تره.
حس «فعال‌تر» و نزدیک‌تری داره. حالت ساده رو مثل یه تعظیم مؤدبانه تصور کن و حالت استمراری رو مثل یه دست تکون دادن دوستانه. همچنین این رو با plan to مقایسه کن.
اگه برای کاری plan to go داری، یعنی برنامه داری. اگه look forward to going داری، یعنی احساس داری. می‌تونی برای چیزی برنامه بریزی بدون اینکه براش هیجان داشته باشی (مثل برنامه‌ریزی برای رفتن به دندان‌پزشکی!).
اما تو فقط برای چیزهایی look forward to می‌کنی که لبخند روی لبت میارن.
