Sentence Builder Exercise

The Sentence Builder is an interactive exercise that helps you understand word order, grammar patterns, and sentence structure. You'll construct sentences by arranging word tiles in the correct order.

How It Works

  1. You're presented with a sentence in your native language or a picture/scenario
  2. A jumbled set of words appears as draggable tiles
  3. Drag and drop the words into the correct order to form a grammatically correct sentence
  4. Submit your answer and receive instant feedback

Starting a Sentence Builder Session

Access Sentence Builder from:

  • Learn → Exercises → Sentence Builder
  • After watching a video, in the "Practice" section
  • As part of a learning path lesson
  • From your daily practice recommendations

Exercise Interface

Prompt

The top of the screen shows what you need to build:

  • Translation Prompt: Sentence in your native language to translate

Word Tiles

Draggable tiles containing words or phrases:

  • Single words (most common)
  • Common collocations or phrases kept together
  • Punctuation tiles for complex sentences

Answer Area

Empty slots where you arrange tiles to build the sentence. Some exercises show:

  • Blank slots indicating number of words
  • First word as a hint
  • Completely empty (more challenging)

Building Your Sentence

Drag and Drop

  1. Click and hold a word tile
  2. Drag it to the answer area
  3. Drop it in the desired position
  4. Repeat until the sentence is complete

Click to Add (Mobile)

On mobile devices:

  1. Tap word tiles in the order you want
  2. They automatically appear in the answer area
  3. Tap words in the answer area to remove them
  4. Long-press and drag to reorder

💡 Pro Tip

Start by identifying the verb and subject first - these anchor the sentence. Then add modifiers, objects, and other elements around this core. This strategy works for most sentence types across languages!
