海底
نحوه استفاده
When talking about the bottom of a body of water, if it's a sea or ocean, use 海底 (kaitei). If it's a lake or pond, use 湖底 (kotei) or 池底 (chitei) respectively. It's not typically used for rivers; for rivers, you might describe the 'riverbed' as 川底 (kawazoko).
A common mistake is to use 底 (soko) by itself when specifically referring to the ocean floor. While 底 (soko) means 'bottom,' it's too general. For the seabed, always use 海底 (kaitei). Another mistake is using it for the bottom of a swimming pool; for that, you'd just say プールの底 (pūru no soko).
