the تقریباً توی هر بیست کلمهای که به انگلیسی گفته میشه، یک بار استفاده میشه؟ این کلمه رسماً رایجترین کلمه در کل این زبونه. اگه بتونی همین یه کلمه فسقلی رو استاد بشی، یعنی همین الانش هم کلی راه رو رفتی تا شبیه یه نیتیو به نظر برسی.the رو مثل انگشت اشارهی زبانیت تصور کن. هر وقت ازش استفاده میکنی، داری به شنوندهت میگی: «هی، دارم درباره این چیز خاص دقیقاً همینجا صحبت میکنم، نه فقط یه نسخه تصادفی از اون.»a ،an و the ممکنه مثل مگسهای ریزی باشن که دور جملههات وزوز میکنن. شاید با خودت فکر کنی اصلاً چرا بهشون نیاز داریم. توی خیلی از زبونها، اینها اصلاً وجود ندارن!the پادشاهِ «خاص بودنه». ما بهش میگیم Definite Article (حرف تعریف معین). بهش میگن «معین» چون دقیقاً مشخص میکنه منظورت کدوم اسم هست..I saw a dog(من یه سگ دیدم). دوستت با خودش فکر میکنه: «خب، یه سگی اونجا بوده دیگه.» اما اگه بگی:

the در واقع خیلی سادهست: همهچیز به «متن» یا همون context بستگی داره. وقتی ازش استفاده میکنی که داری درباره چیزی حرف میزنی که منحصربهفرد هست، قبلاً بهش اشاره کردی، یا از شرایط موجود کاملاً واضحه. مثلاً اگه توی یه اتاق نشستی و میگی: Close the door (در رو ببند)، همه میدونن منظورت درِ همون اتاق خاص هست.the وقتت رو برات میخره! همچنین برای چیزهایی که تک و یگانه هستن هم کاربرد داره.sun (خورشید) وجود داره (خب، همونی که برامون مهمه)، پس بهش میگیم the sun. فقط یک internet وجود داره، پس میگیم the internet. این کلمه مثل یه کارت VIP برای اسمهاست.the رو داشته باشن. اگه داری به دوستت درباره سریالی که هر دو میبینید پیام میدی، میگی: Did you see the latest episode؟ (قسمت آخر رو دیدی؟). هر دوتا میدونید دقیقاً کدوم سریال و کدوم قسمت رو میگی.
الگوی ساخت
the از نظر فنی خیلی راحته چون دیکتهاش هیچوقت تغییر نمیکنه. براش فرقی نمیکنه که اسم مذکر، مؤنث، مفرد یا جمع باشه. یه مدل «تکسایز» برای همهست. با این حال، تلفظ جایی هست که جادوی واقعی اتفاق میافته.

the apple ،the end ،the hour (حرف 'h' اینجا خونده نمیشه، پس با صدای صدادار شروع میشه).
the orange رو بلند بگی. thee orange خیلی طبیعیتر از thuh orange به نظر میاد، نه؟ انگار دهنت داره یه حرکت پارکور انجام میده تا روون بمونه.

a/an = هر کدوم. .I need a phone (برام فرقی نمیکنه کدوم، فقط یه گوشی بهم بدید تا بتونم یه اوبر بگیرم).the = اون یکیِ خاص. .I need the phone (گوشیِ خودم. همونی که عکسهام و مچهای تیندرم توشه).به a/an مثل یه غریبه و به the مثل یه دوست قدیمی نگاه کن. اگه توی کافیشاپ باشی، ممکنه بگی "I'd like a latte«. اما اگه باریستا برات یه لاته سرد بیاره، میگی: ».Wait, the latte is cold". تو اون لاته رو از حالت «تصادفی» به «خاص» ارتقا دادی چون اون دیگه لاته *توئه*.
یه تضاد دیگه استفاده از بدون حرف تعریف (No Article) هست. این برای مفاهیم کلیه. Dogs are cute (همه سگها).
The dogs are cute(اون سگهای خاص اونجا توی اون پست اینستاگرام). اگه اینها رو قاطی کنی، ممکنه اشتباهی به یکی بگی از تمام موسیقیها متنفری، در حالی که فقط از اون یه آهنگی که داشت از رادیو پخش میشد بدت میومده!
