e بهترین دوست شما برای اضافه کردن چیزها به هم است. این علامت «بعلاوه» در زبان است.mas نقطه چرخش داستان است؛ شنونده شما را برای چیزی غیرمنتظره یا متضاد آماده میکند. ou دوراهی در مسیر است؛ تصمیمگیری را تحمیل میکند. برخلاف برخی گرامرهای پیچیده پرتغالی (مانند وجه التزامی)، اینها ساده هستند و معمولاً باعث تغییرات عجیب در فعل نمیشوند.

e / mas / ou + جمله دوم.
Eu estudo (من درس میخوانم) + e + eu trabalho (من کار میکنم) = Eu estudo e trabalho.
mas ویرگول میگذاریم. این به خواننده یک نفس کوتاه میدهد قبل از اینکه با «اما» روبرو شود. برای e و ou معمولاً نیازی به ویرگول نیست مگر اینکه فاعل دو جمله متفاوت باشد یا لیست طولانیای داشته باشید.
