पूछना 'किसे/किसको' (wen)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'wen' when you are asking about a person who is the direct object of a verb.
- Use 'wer' for the subject (who did it): 'Wer liebt dich?'
- Use 'wen' for the direct object (who is being acted upon): 'Wen liebst du?'
- Always check if the verb requires the accusative case (most do).
Overview
wer pata hoga, lekin jaise hi koi tumhare sentence ka object ban jata hai—woh insaan jise call kiya ja raha hai, pyar kiya ja raha hai, ya TikTok par stalk kiya ja raha hai—German mein ek switch flip ho jata hai. Woh switch hai wen.wer kahani ka hero hai, toh wen woh insaan hai jisse hero actually baat kar raha hai.wer hai.wen zinda hai, tandurust hai, aur bilkul mandatory hai.wen ko sahi tarah se use karne se tum ek translation bot kam aur ek aise insaan zyada lagoge jo conversation ke 'who-does-what' flow ko samajhta hai. Yeh ek chota sa change hai—sirf ek 'n' jodna—lekin iska grammatical weight bahut zyada hai.How This Grammar Works
wer. Jab woh insaan direct object ban jata hai (jis par action ho raha hai), hum Accusative case par shift ho jate hain: wen.wen mein 'n' ko ek hook ki tarah samjho jo verb se jud jata hai. Yeh wahi 'n' hai jo tum der ke den banne mein ya ein ke einen banne mein dekhte ho. Yeh sirf logon ke liye masculine-style question words ke saath hota hai.wen hai. Chahe tum die Frau, der Mann, ya das Kind ke baare mein pooch rahe ho, agar woh object hain, toh wen tumhara go-to word hai. Ek aisi language ke liye jo usually complex rules pasand karti hai, yeh surprisingly efficient hai.wen ko dekh rahi hai; waise bhi usey tumhari perfect grammar ki koi parwah nahi hogi.Formation Pattern
wen ke saath sawal banane ka ek bahut specific logic hota hai. Tum isey kahin bhi phenk kar umeed nahi kar sakte ki sab theek hoga. Har baar ek perfect question banane ke liye in steps ko follow karo:
wen strictly logon ke liye hai. Agar tum kisi cheez ke baare mein pooch rahe ho, toh tum *was* use karoge.
wen ko sentence ke bilkul shuru mein rakho. Yeh 'W-word' position hai.
wen ke baad.
Wen (1) + besuchst (2) + du (3) + heute? (4) = 'Whom are you visiting today?' (Tum aaj kis-se milne ja rahe ho?)
When To Use It
wen ki zaroorat tab padegi jab tum koi aisa sawal pooch rahe ho jiska jawab Accusative case mein hoga. Ismein usually 'transitive' verbs shamil hote hain—woh verbs jinhein sense banane ke liye direct object ki zaroorat hoti hai.- Socializing:
Weninvite you to the Party? (Wen lädst du zur Party ein?) - Tech/Apps:
Wendid you block on WhatsApp? (Wen hast du bei WhatsApp blockiert?) - Dating:
Wendo you find attractive in this Netflix show? (Wen findest du in dieser Serie attraktiv?) - Daily Errands:
Wenare you calling at the Bank? (Wen rufen Sie bei der Bank an?) - Photography:
Wendid you tag in your latest post? (Wen hast du in deinem letzten Post markiert?)
wen use karo. Agar tum soch rahe ho ki kya tumhe isey apne kutte ke liye use karna chahiye, toh technically jaanwaron ko aksar 'it' treatment (*was*) milta hai, lekin agar tum apne kutte ko insaan ki tarah treat karte ho (hum sab karte hain), toh wen socially acceptable hai. Grammatically, apne A2 exam mein safe rehne ke liye isey insaanon tak hi seemit rakho!Common Mistakes
wer use karna jab tumhe wen use karna chahiye. Kyunki English speakers har cheez ke liye 'who' use karte hain, tumhara dimaag chillayega ki bas Wer liebst du? (Who do you love?) bol do. Lekin ek German kaan ke liye, iska matlab sunayi deta hai 'Who loves you?' jahan 'who' woh hai jo pyar kar raha hai. Agar tum jan-na chahte ho ki pyar ka *object* kaun hai, toh tumhe wen use karna hi padega.wen ko wem ke saath confuse karna. Jabki wen direct objects (Accusative) ke liye hai, wem indirect objects (Dative) ke liye hai. Agar tum kisi *ko* gift de rahe ho, toh yeh wem hai. Agar tum bas kisi *ki taraf* dekh rahe ho, toh yeh wen hai.Für wen ist das Geschenk? (Tohfa kiske liye hai?) hi hoga. Bhale hi wahan koi verb action na kar raha ho, preposition wen ko game mein force kar deta hai. Yeh ek aise rule ki tarah hai jo baaki sab cheezon ko override kar deta hai. Prepositions ko khud ko bully mat karne do; bas yaad karlo ki kaunse wen club mein aate hain.Contrast With Similar Patterns

Wer boss hai, Wen employee hai jise kaam mil raha hai, aur Wem side mein consultant hai. Agar tum har cheez ke liye wer use karoge, toh tum ek broken record ki tarah sound karoge.wen sahi tarah se use karoge, toh log shayad *tumse* grammar tips maangne lagenge. (Okay, shayad nahi, par tum apna A2 test zaroor pass kar loge).Quick FAQ
Can I use who instead of wen in German like we do in English?
Bilkul nahi. German speakers bahut confuse ho jayenge. Agar tum Wer suchst du? kahoge, toh woh sochenge 'Who is looking for you?' na ki 'Whom are you looking for?'
Is wen used for groups of people too?
Haan! Wen ek insaan ya sau logon ko cover karta hai. Yeh plural-friendly hai.
Does wen change for gender?
Nahi! Articles (der/die/das) ke vipreet, question word wen same rehta hai chahe tum aadmi, aurat, ya non-binary person ke baare mein pooch rahe ho.
What about 'was'?
Was cheezon aur objects ke liye hai. Wen strictly insaanon (aur shayad bahut important pets) ke liye hai.
Is wen old-fashioned?
Bilkul nahi. English ke 'whom' ki tarah nahi, jo dheere-dheere khatam ho raha hai, wen har roz toddlers se lekar CEOs tak sabke dwara use kiya jata hai.
