شرطی اول: شاید/احتمالاً (May/Might)

برای نشون دادن یه نتیجه احتمالی ولی نامشخص توی آینده، توی «شرطی نوع اول»، از may یا might استفاده می‌کنی.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'may' or 'might' in the result clause when you aren't 100% sure what will happen.

  • Use Present Simple after 'if' (If it rains...).
  • Use 'may' or 'might' + base verb for the result (I might stay).
  • Never use 'will' in the 'if' part of the sentence.
If + 🟢 Present Simple, Subject + ❓ may/might + 🏁 Verb

مرور کلی

تا حالا به اپلیکیشن Uber Eats نگاه کردی و با خودت گفتی: If the driver gets lost, my food might be cold؟ یا شاید به رفیقت پیام دادی: If I finish this Netflix show tonight, I may actually wake up early tomorrow؟

If I study, I will pass یعنی خیلی اعتماد به نفس دارم (و شاید یه کم مغرورم).
اما اگه بگم If I study, I might pass یعنی دارم درباره اینکه اون امتحان واقعاً چقدر سخته واقع‌بینانه‌تر فکر می‌کنم. برای فرار از سرزنش هم عالیه؛ اگه به رئیست بگی I might finish it by 5 PM و تمومش نکنی، خب، تو گفتی *might*، نگفتی؟ نابغه‌وار.

الگوی ساخت

1
ساختن این ساختار از تا کردنِ ملافه کش‌دار هم راحت‌تره. فقط به دو تا بلوک نیاز داری:
2
بخش if: این بخش از if + حال ساده استفاده می‌کنه. حتی اگه داریم درباره آینده حرف می‌زنیم، *هرگز* تو این بخش از will یا might استفاده نمی‌کنیم. همیشه می‌گیم: If I go یا If she calls.
3
بخش نتیجه: اینجاست که جادو اتفاق می‌افته. تو از may یا might + شکل ساده فعل (بدون to یا -ing یا -s) استفاده می‌کنی.
4
Form | Example | Translation
5
--- | --- | ---
6
Affirmative | If it rains, we might stay in. | اگه بارون بیاد، شاید خونه بمونیم.
7
Negative | If he's busy, he may not call. | اگه سرش شلوغ باشه، شاید زنگ نزنه.
8
Question | If you win, might you buy a car? | اگه برنده شی، شاید یه ماشین بخری؟
9
یادت باشه: می‌تونی جای این دو تا رو عوض کنی! We might stay in if it rains. دقت کن که وقتی if میاد وسط، دیگه به ویرگول (comma) نیاز نداری. انگار ویرگول فقط اونجاست تا در رو برای بخش دوم جمله باز نگه داره.

کی استفاده کنیم

می‌بینی که تقریباً تو هر بخشی از زندگی مدرن داری از این استفاده می‌کنی.
  • شبکه‌های اجتماعی: If I post this photo, I might get a few likes.
  • کار/دانشگاه: If the professor is in a good mood, he may extend the deadline.
  • بازی: If I find the legendary sword, I might actually win this round.
  • سفر: If the flight is delayed, we may miss our connection.
این گرامر همچنین ابزار نهایی برای مودب بودنه. اگه کسی ازت لطفی بخواد، گفتنِ I might be able to help خیلی نرم‌تر و کم‌فشارتر از یه آره یا نه قطعی به نظر میاد. بهت یه «راه فرار» می‌ده.
این گرامر رسمیِ اون «رفیقِ دودل» هست که همه می‌شناسیمش (یا خودمون همونیم). اگه طرفِ مقابلت تو تیندِر پرسید که می‌خوای دوباره هم رو ببینید یا نه، و تو بگی If I have time next week, we might meet یعنی با موفقیت گزینه‌هات رو باز نگه داشتی.

اشتباهات رایج

بزرگترین تله، هیولای «فعل کمکی دوبل» هست. هرگز نگو might will یا may will. فقط یکی رو انتخاب کن!
  • If it rains, it might will be cold. (غلط! یه مسیر رو انتخاب کن.)
  • If it rains, it might be cold.
یه اشتباه کلاسیک دیگه اینه که تو بخش if از will استفاده کنی.
  • If I will see her, I might tell her.
  • If I see her, I might tell her.
بخش if رو مثل لنگر تصور کن؛ باید ساده باشه.
همچنین، یادت نره که may و might برای he یا she یا it تغییر نمی‌کنن. چیزی به اسم mights نداریم. اگه بگی She mights go بقیه جوری نگات می‌کنن که انگار داشتی سعی می‌کردی سوپ رو با چنگال بخوری. ساده نگهش دار: She might go.

مقایسه با الگوهای مشابه

این با استفاده از will چه فرقی داره؟ ساده‌ست: احتمال.
  • If I go to the party, I will see him. (احتمال ۱۰۰٪. مطمئنی.)
  • If I go to the party, I might see him. (احتمال ۵۰٪. شاید اونجا باشه، شاید تو خونه نشسته نتفلیکس می‌بینه.)
درباره can چی؟ can درباره تواناییه. If I have money, I can buy it یعنی تو توانایی مالی یا فیزیکی خریدش رو داری. If I have money, I may buy it یعنی داری *تصمیم* می‌گیری که آیا می‌خوایش یا نه.
و این رو با شرطی نوع دوم اشتباه نگیر (If I won the lottery, I might travel).

If I am hired, I may be able to start on Monday. حرفه‌ای به نظر میاد و خیلی ناامیدانه نیست.
س: شکل منفی might چیه؟
ج: می‌شه might not. تو نوشتن از mightn't دوری کن؛ انگار یه شخصیت تو رمان‌های قرن نوزدهمی. برای اون حس مدرن و باحال، همون might not رو بگو.

ترفند حافظه

کلمه MIGHT رو به عنوان مخفف این جمله در نظر بگیر: Maybe I Guess He Thinks (شاید من حدس می‌زنم او فکر می‌کند). این کلمه «شاید» هست! یا فقط یادت باشه: Might is Light. یه شانسِ سبکه، نه یه قولِ سنگین.

اگه قسمت شرط (if clause) اول بیاد، یه کاما بذار. اگه بعد از جمله اصلی بیاد، دیگه کاما نمی‌خواد! مثلاً: "If I go, I'll call« در مقابل »I'll call if I go."

تو If Clause، Will ممنوع!

این رایج‌ترین اشتباهه. با اینکه داری در مورد آینده حرف می‌زنی، قسمت 'if' همیشه حال ساده (Present Simple) میمونه:
If I go to the party, I will have fun.

In modern English, there is almost no difference. `Might` is more common in speech, while `may` is slightly more formal. Some grammarians say `might` is even less certain than `may`, but most people use them the same way.

Yes! `Could` also expresses possibility. 'If it rains, we could stay home' means it is a possible option for us.

The `if` clause sets the condition, which is usually treated as a factual possibility in the Present Simple. Adding a modal of uncertainty like `might` inside the condition makes the sentence grammatically redundant and confusing.

Yes, it is the contraction of `might not`. However, it is very rare. It's better to use `might not` to sound more natural.

Yes! You can say 'I might go if I have time.' Just remember that if the `if` clause comes second, you don't need a comma.

No. In this conditional structure, `may` refers to probability, not permission. 'If it rains, I may stay' means 'maybe I will stay', not 'I am allowed to stay'.

We usually use 'Do you think...?' For example: 'Do you think you might come if I invite you?' Starting a question with 'Might you...?' sounds very old-fashioned.

No. The First Conditional (with might) is for real possibilities. The Second Conditional (If I won...) is for imaginary or impossible situations.
