Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Burmese personal pronouns change based on who you are talking to and your social relationship with them.
- Use 'ကျွန်တော်' (kyun-taw) for 'I' if you are male.
- Use 'ကျွန်မ' (kyun-ma) for 'I' if you are female.
- Use 'သူ' (thu) for 'he' or 'she' regardless of gender.

Meanings
Personal pronouns in Burmese act as placeholders for people. Unlike English, they are highly sensitive to social hierarchy and gender.
Formal/Polite First Person
Used in professional or polite settings.
“ကျွန်တော် စားပြီးပြီ။”

Neutral/Third Person
Used to refer to others.
