Use 'Kayfa' (كيف) to ask 'how' about states, conditions, or methods in Arabic.

Common Mistakes
كيف to ask for the price. That is a classic newbie move. In English, we say How much?, but in Arabic, you must use كم. If you ask كيف القميص؟, you are asking for an opinion on the shirt's style, not the cost. Another mistake is using it for age. Do not say كيف عمرك؟. Use كم. Also, beginners often try to translate How big or How tall literally. In Arabic, you do not say كيف كبير. You would ask ما حجم... (What is the size of...). Avoid putting the verb before كيف. It is not like English where we sometimes flip things. كيف always wants to be first. Also, do not forget to conjugate the verb that follows it. Some people get so focused on كيف that they forget to change the verb for the right person. Another funny mistake is using it for How come? in a way that sounds too English. While it works sometimes, usually لماذا (why) is what you actually want. And please, do not use it to ask for the time. That is كم الساعة.
