il y a: تعني «منذ» ولكنها تشير إلى نقطة زمنية محددة في الماضي انطلاقاً من اللحظة الحالية. هي لا تعبر عن «مدة استغرقها الفعل» بل عن «توقيت وقوعه». مثال:Je suis arrivé il y a une heure(وصلتُ منذ ساعة). هنا الفعلarriverحدث في نقطة زمنية محددة.

depuisمعpendant: يخطئ المتعلم العربي ويقولJ'ai étudié depuis deux heuresبدلاً منpendant. السبب هو أننا في العربية نستخدم «منذ» و«لمدة» أحياناً بشكل تبادلي في ذهننا، لكن في الفرنسيةdepuisتعني أن الفعل لا يزال يؤثر على الحاضر أو كان مستمراً في الماضي، بينماpendantتعني أن الفعل انتهى. - 2استخدام

Meanings
These prepositions define how long an action lasts. 'Depuis' links the past to the present, while 'pendant' marks a bounded duration.
