نظرة عامة

### Overview
اليوم سنركز على are و were.
The sales are good
بدلاً من
The sales were good
### How This Grammar Works
يعمل are و were كأدوات ربط (Linking Verbs) أو كأفعال مساعدة (Auxiliary Verbs). في العربية، نحن نعتمد على الجملة الاسمية التي تتكون من مبتدأ وخبر، مثل «الطلاب مجتهدون». في الإنجليزية، لا يمكننا قول The students diligent؛ يجب أن نضع رابطاً وهو are (للحاضر) أو were (للماضي).
are تُستخدم مع الجمع (We, They, You) في الحاضر، و were تُستخدم مع نفس الضمائر في الماضي.
### Formation Pattern
لتبسيط الأمر، لننظر إلى هذا الجدول الذي يوضح متى نستخدم كل فعل بناءً على الفاعل:
| الفاعل (Subject) | الحاضر (Present) | الماضي (Past) |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| I | am | was |
| You | are | were |
| He / She / It | is | was |
| We | are | were |
| They | are | were |
لاحظ في الجدول أن are و were محجوزتان فقط للجمع ولضمير المخاطب you.
  • أمثلة على الحاضر (are):
  • They are happy. (هم سعداء الآن).
  • You are a good friend. (أنت صديق جيد).
  • أمثلة على الماضي (were):
  • They were happy yesterday. (كانوا سعداء بالأمس).
  • You were a good friend to me. (كنت صديقاً جيداً لي).
### When To Use It
نستخدم are و were في أربع حالات رئيسية:
  1. 1وصف الحالة أو الصفة: مثل The coffee is hot (الحاضر) و The coffee was hot (الماضي). إذا كان الفاعل جمعاً، نستخدم are أو were.
  2. 2تحديد المكان: You are in the market (أنت في السوق الآن)، You were in the market (كنت في السوق).
  3. 3الأفعال المستمرة: لتكوين الزمن المستمر، نضع الفعل + ing. مثال: We are eating (نحن نأكل الآن)، We were eating (كنا نأكل).
  4. 4صيغة المبني للمجهول: The cars are cleaned (تُنظف السيارات)، The cars were cleaned (نُظفت السيارات).
الأهم هو التمييز بين الحاضر والماضي في سياق الكلام. إذا كنت تحكي قصة عن تجمع عائلي في رمضان، استخدم were لوصف مشاعرك أو المكان في ذلك الوقت، ولا تستخدم are لأن الحدث انتهى.
### Common Mistakes
  1. 1حذف فعل الكينونة: الخطأ الأكثر شيوعاً هو قول He happy بدلاً من He is happy، أو They happy بدلاً من They are happy. السبب هو أننا في العربية لا نحتاج لفعل في الجملة الاسمية، فنعتقد أن الإنجليزية تعمل بنفس الطريقة.
  2. 2خلط الزمن: قول
    Yesterday, they are at home
. هذا خطأ ناتج عن عدم التركيز على ظرف الزمان. بما أننا قلنا Yesterday، يجب فوراً تحويل are إلى were.
  3. 3استخدام was مع you: يميل البعض لقول You was لأنهم يعاملون you كمفرد كما في العربية. تذكر دائماً: you في الإنجليزية «جمع» دائماً من حيث تصريف الفعل.
### Contrast With Similar Patterns
| وجه المقارنة | are (الحاضر) | were (الماضي) |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| الزمن | الحاضر (Present) | الماضي (Past) |
| الاستخدام الأساسي | حقائق أو مواقف حالية | أحداث أو حالات منتهية |
| التوافق | مع you, we, they | مع you, we, they |
| مثال | They are here now | They were here yesterday |
### Quick FAQ
  • س: هل يمكنني استخدام were مع المفرد؟
ج: نعم، في حالة واحدة فقط وهي صيغة التمني (Subjunctive) مثل: If I were you.
  • س: هل are و were يتغيران بتغير المذكر والمؤنث؟
ج: لا، هذه هي ميزة الإنجليزية، لا يوجد تمييز بين الجنسين في هذه الأفعال.
  • س: كيف أعرف متى أستخدم are أو were في المحادثة السريعة؟
ج: انظر إلى الكلمات الدالة على الزمن؛ كلمات مثل now, today, at the moment تعني are، بينما yesterday, last year, ago تعني were.

💡

فكر في 'آلة الزمن'

لما تحتار بين الكلمتين، تخيل آلة زمن صغيرة. هل جملتك عن 'دلوقت' ولا 'زمان'؟ اختيارك للفعل هيعتمد على ده:
They are here now.
⚠️

لا تنسَ 'You'

تذكر إن الضمير 'you' دايمًا بيحب صيغة الجمع، سواء بتكلم شخص واحد أو مية. دايمًا قول:
You were amazing at the party!
🎯

دور على 'دليل الوقت'

الكلمات زي 'yesterday' أو 'now' هي أعز أصحابك. هي زي النينجا اللي بتدلك على الحل الصح:
Currently, we are working on it.
🌍

استخدام 'Were' للتمني

رغم إنها تبان غريبة، بس بنستخدم 'were' مع المفرد في حالات التخيل أو التمني عشان تبان لغتك أدق:
If I were you, I would study.
💡

قوة الجمع

الكلمتين بيعشقوا الفاعل الجمع. لو الفاعل 'we' أو 'they' أو 'the dogs'، يبقى اختيارك محصور بينهم:
The dogs were barking all night.

Smart Tips

Always use 'If I were you' instead of 'If I was you'. It sounds much more professional.

If I was you, I'd check the report again. If I were you, I would check the report again.

Ignore the number! 'You' is a grammatical plural in English, so it always takes 'are' and 'were'.

You was great today! You were great today!

Look for time markers like 'yesterday', 'now', or 'next week' to decide between 'are' and 'were'.

They were here now. They are here now.

If you wish for something that isn't true right now, use 'were'.

I wish I was on vacation. I wish I were on vacation.

ملاحظات ثقافية

In AAVE, 'be' can be used as an invariant verb for habitual actions (e.g., 'They be working'), which is different from the standard 'They are working'.

The use of 'y'all are' is standard for the plural 'you'.

Some dialects use 'was' for all subjects in the past ('We was', 'They was'). This is considered non-standard but is very common in certain regions.

The verb 'to be' is highly irregular because it comes from three different Old English roots: 'am/is', 'be', and 'was/were'.

الأسئلة الشائعة (8)

This is the 'subjunctive mood', used for things that aren't true. While `If I was` is common in casual talk, `If I were` is the grammatically correct form for hypotheticals.

Yes, but only in hypothetical situations like `I wish she were here` or `If he were taller`. In the normal past tense, use `was`.

In standard English, no. It is always `You were`. You might hear `You was` in some dialects or songs, but avoid it in exams or work.

The contraction is `weren't`. It is very common in speaking and informal writing.

Move `are` to the front of the sentence: `Are they coming?` instead of `They are coming.`

No, `it` is singular and uses `is` (present) or `was` (past). The only exception is the subjunctive: `If it were Sunday, I'd be in bed.`

`They're` is the contraction for `they are`. `There` refers to a place. They sound the same but have different meanings.

Use `are` + `-ing` for fixed plans: `We are meeting at 5 PM.` This shows the plan is already decided.
