than و then. قد يبدو الفرق بينهما بسيطاً، مجرد حرف علة واحد (a مقابل e)، لكن من الناحية القواعدية والوظيفية، فإنهما ينتميان إلى عالمين مختلفين تماماً.than هي أداة ربط (Conjunction) تُستخدم حصرياً للمقارنة، بينما then هي ظرف (Adverb) يُستخدم للإشارة إلى الوقت أو الترتيب الزمني أو النتيجة المنطقية.than كأداة ربط للمقارنةthan عندما نقوم بعملية مقارنة بين شيئين أو شخصين أو فكرتين. فكر فيها كجسر يربط بين الطرف الأول والطرف الثاني في المقارنة. في قواعدنا العربية، عندما نستخدم «اسم التفضيل» (مثل: أطول، أجمل، أسرع)، نتبعه غالباً بحرف الجر «من».than هي المعادل الوظيفي لـ «من» في هذا السياق.My brother is taller than me.(أخي أطول مني).Health is more important than wealth.(الصحة أهم من الثروة).
than تأتي دائماً بعد صفة مقارنة (Comparative Adjective). إذا رأيت كلمة تنتهي بـ er أو مسبوقة بـ more أو less، فمن المؤكد تقريباً أنك ستحتاج إلى than بعدها.then كظرف للزمان والتسلسلthen فهي كلمة متعددة المواهب، لكنها لا تقارن أبداً. وظيفتها الأساسية هي الإجابة على سؤال «متى؟» أو «ماذا حدث بعد ذلك؟». يمكننا تقسيم استخداماتها إلى ثلاثة أنواع رئيسية تشبه إلى حد كبير أدوات العطف والظروف في العربية:- 1التسلسل الزمني (بمعنى «ثم» أو «بعد ذلك»): تستخدم لربط الأحداث حسب ترتيب وقوعها.

We will analyze the data, then we will present the results.(سنحلل البيانات، ثم سنعرض النتائج).
My son is older than yours.(ابني أكبر من ابنك).We will pray, then we will start the celebration.(سنصلي، ثم سنبدأ الاحتفال).
Next (التالي) أو At that time (في ذلك الوقت)، فاستخدم then. إذا كنت تستخدم كلمات مثل More أو Less أو صفة تنتهي بـ er مثل Better أو Worse فاستخدم than.- 1إسقاط فعل الكينونة (

Meanings
The words 'than' and 'then' are often confused because they sound similar, but 'than' is used for comparisons while 'then' indicates time, sequence, or result.
