سوالات نقل قول شده: استفاده از کلمات پرسشی (چه، کجا، چرا)

وقتی سوالای wh رو گزارش می‌کنی، در واقع سوال رو تبدیل به یه جمله خبری می‌کنی. فقط جای «کلمات» رو عوض می‌کنی و «زمان فعل» رو یه پله میبری عقب.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Reported questions turn a direct question into a statement by removing 'do/does/did' and using normal subject-verb word order.

  • Keep the Wh- word (what, where, why) as the connector. Example: 'Where is he?' -> 'She asked where he was.'
  • Change the word order to Subject + Verb. Example: 'Why are you late?' -> 'He asked why I was late.'
  • Remove auxiliary 'do', 'does', or 'did'. Example: 'What do you want?' -> 'She asked what I wanted.'

### Overview
### How This Grammar Works
### Formation Pattern
ساختار کلی برای ساختن یک سوال غیرمستقیم با کلمات Wh- به شرح زیر است:
Subject + Reporting Verb + (Object) + Wh-word + Subject + Verb (Backshifted)
بیایید این الگو را در زمان‌های مختلف بررسی کنیم. به تغییرات فعل و حذف افعال کمکی do/does/did دقت کنید:
| زمان اصلی (Direct) | ساختار در نقل‌قول (Reported) | مثال | تغییرات کلیدی |
|---|---|---|---|
| Present Simple | Past Simple | He asked what I wanted. | حذف do/does و تبدیل فعل به گذشته |
| Present Continuous | Past Continuous | She asked where I was going. | تبدیل am/is/are به was/were |
| Past Simple | Past Perfect | They asked why he had left. | تبدیل گذشته ساده به گذشته دور |
| Present Perfect | Past Perfect | I asked how she had found it. | تبدیل has/have به had |
| Future (will) | Would | He asked when you would arrive. | تبدیل will به would |
نکته درباره افعال کمکی: در سوالات مستقیم زمان حال ساده و گذشته ساده، ما از do, does و did استفاده می‌کنیم. در نقل‌قول غیرمستقیم، این افعال به طور کامل حذف می‌شوند و فعل اصلی تغییر شکل می‌دهد.
مثال:
  • Direct:
    Where do you live?
  • Reported: He asked where I lived. (نه where did I live)
### When To Use It
کاربرد این ساختار بسیار گسترده است و در موقعیت‌های زیر بیشترین استفاده را دارد:
  • بازگو کردن مکالمات روزمره: فرض کنید در بازار در حال چانه‌زنی هستید و بعداً می‌خواهید به دوستتان بگویید فروشنده چه پرسید.
The shopkeeper asked why I wanted a discount.
  • گزارش‌های رسمی و اداری: در محیط‌های کاری، وقتی می‌خواهید سوالات مطرح شده در یک جلسه را به مدیر خود گزارش دهید.
The client inquired when the project would be finished.
  • نوشتار آکادمیک و مقالات: برای بیان پرسش‌های تحقیق یا سوالاتی که دانشمندان قبلاً مطرح کرده‌اند.
Researchers wondered why the experiment had failed.
  • رعایت ادب و غیرمستقیم‌گویی: گاهی اوقات برای اینکه سوالی را محترمانه‌تر بپرسیم، از ساختار غیرمستقیم استفاده می‌کنیم (Indirect Questions). اگرچه این دقیقاً نقل‌قول نیست، اما از همان ساختار گرامری پیروی می‌کند.
Could you tell me where the nearest station is? (دقت کنید که نمی‌گوییم where is the nearest station)
### Common Mistakes
زبان‌آموزان فارسی‌زبان به دلیل تداخل ساختارهای مادری، معمولاً در سه مورد دچار اشتباه می‌شوند:
  1. 1حفظ ساختار سوالی (Inversion Error):
در فارسی، ما برای سوالی کردن یا نقل‌قول کردن، جای فاعل و فعل را عوض نمی‌کنیم. به همین دلیل، بسیاری می‌گویند:
  • اشتباه: He asked me where was the bank.
  • درست: He asked me where the bank was.
راهکار: همیشه به خودتان یادآوری کنید که بعد از کلمه where یا what در نقل‌قول، باید یک جمله خبری ساده (فاعل + فعل) بیاورید.
  1. 1استفاده از that قبل از کلمه پرسشی:
در فارسی می‌گوییم: «او پرسید که چرا دیر کردی». این «که» باعث می‌شود زبان‌آموزان به اشتباه بگویند:
  • اشتباه: She asked that why I was late.
  • درست: She asked why I was late.
نکته: در انگلیسی، کلمات Wh- خودشان نقش پیونددهنده را دارند و نیازی به that نیست.
  1. 1فراموش کردن عقب‌گرد زمانی (Tense Backshift):
ما در فارسی اغلب می‌گوییم: «پرسید کجا زندگی می‌کنی؟» (زمان حال). اما در انگلیسی اگر فعل اصلی گذشته باشد، باید بگوییم:
  • اشتباه: He asked me where I live.
  • درست: He asked me where I lived. (اگر هنوز هم آنجا زندگی می‌کنید، استفاده از live گاهی در مکالمه پذیرفته است، اما در گرامر استاندارد B1، باید به گذشته تبدیل شود).
### Contrast With Similar Patterns
برای درک بهتر، بیایید تفاوت بین گزارش کردن سوالات Wh- و سوالات Yes/No را بررسی کنیم. در سوالات Yes/No ما کلمه پرسشی نداریم، بنابراین از if یا whether استفاده می‌کنیم.
| نوع سوال | ساختار مستقیم | ساختار نقل‌قول (غیرمستقیم) |
|---|---|---|
| Wh- Question |
Where is the key?
| He asked where the key was. |
| Yes/No Question |
Is the key here?
| He asked if the key was there. |
همان‌طور که می‌بینید، در هر دو حالت، ترتیب کلمات به صورت فاعل + فعل تغییر می‌کند، اما کلمه پیونددهنده متفاوت است. همچنین به تغییر here به there در مثال دوم دقت کنید؛ این بخشی از تغییرات قیدهای زمان و مکان در نقل‌قول است که باید به آن توجه داشت.
### Quick FAQ
  1. 1آیا همیشه باید زمان فعل را به گذشته برگردانیم (Backshift)؟
خیر. اگر حقیقتی که درباره‌اش سوال شده هنوز پابرجاست (مثلاً: Where is the capital of France?)
(I wondered why...).
  1. 1اگر کلمه پرسشی خودش فاعل جمله باشد، چه اتفاقی می‌افتد؟
این یکی از ساده‌ترین حالت‌هاست! اگر کلماتی مثل Who یا What فاعل باشند، ترتیب جمله تغییری نمی‌کند، چون از قبل فاعل در ابتدای جمله بوده است. فقط زمان فعل را تغییر می‌دهیم.
  • Direct:
    Who broke the window?
  • Reported: She asked who had broken the window.
  1. 1چرا نباید از علامت سوال استفاده کنیم؟
چون شما در حال پرسیدن نیستید، بلکه دارید گزارش می‌دهید که فرد دیگری در گذشته پرسیده است. جمله شما اکنون یک جمله خبری (Statement) است که اطلاعاتی را درباره یک پرسش قدیمی ارائه می‌دهد.

⚠️

خطر 'Do'

توی سوال‌های نقل‌قول شده، هیچ وقت از 'do' یا 'does' یا 'did' استفاده نکن. اینا غیب میشن! مثلاً اگه سوال اصلی
Why do you ask?
باشه، وقتی گزارش میدی میشه
He asked why I asked.
🎯

Smart Tips

Stop! Change the main verb to the past tense instead. 'Did' is for questions; your sentence is now a statement.

He asked what did I see. He asked what I saw.

Move the 'is' (or 'was') to the very end of the clause.

She asked where is the key. She asked where the key was.

Use 'I was wondering...' It uses the reported question structure to soften a request.

Where is the bathroom? I was wondering where the bathroom is.

Check if you need 'had'. If the 'why' happened before the 'asking', use past perfect.

He asked why I left. He asked why I had left.

Treat 'what time' as a single Wh- unit that stays together.

He asked what was the time. He asked what time it was.

تلفظ

He asked where I WAS. (Voice goes down at the end)

Falling Intonation

Unlike direct questions which often have rising intonation, reported questions end with falling intonation because they are statements.

She asked WHY I left.

Stress on Wh- word

The Wh- word is usually stressed to highlight the topic of the inquiry.

Statement Fall

I asked where he went. ↘️

Conveys that the speaker is providing information, not asking a question.

تداعی تصویری

Imagine a question mark (?) being flattened into a period (.) by a heavy weight labeled 'Subject + Verb'. The question mark loses its 'do/does/did' tail in the process.

Rhyme

When reporting what they say, throw the 'do' and 'did' away. Put the subject in the lead, that is all the help you need!

Story

A detective is writing a report. He hears a witness ask 'Where is the money?'. In his notebook, he writes: 'The witness asked where the money was.' He knows he can't use question marks in a formal report, so he straightens the sentence out.

Look at your last 3 sent text messages. If they were questions, try to report them to an imaginary friend using 'I asked...'.

نکات فرهنگی

In formal British English, 'inquired' is very common in written reports, whereas 'asked' is preferred in speech.

Americans often use 'wanted to know' as a more casual alternative to 'asked' in storytelling.

Using indirect questions (reported structure) is considered more polite when asking for favors or information from strangers.

The 'Wh-' words in English come from the Proto-Indo-European root '*kwo-', which also produced 'quis' in Latin and 'wer' in German.

شروع‌کننده‌های مکالمه

Tell me about a time someone asked you a strange question. What did they ask?

In your last job interview, what did the interviewer ask you?

If you could ask a famous person one thing, what would it be? Now, tell me what you would ask them using reported speech.

Think about a recent news story. What are people asking about it?

Because a reported question is actually a statement *about* a question. It's a noun clause, not an interrogative sentence.

No. In English, we never use `that` and a Wh- word together in reported speech. The Wh- word is the only connector you need.

If the reporting verb is in the present (e.g., 'He asks'), you don't change the tense. If it's in the past (e.g., 'He asked'), you usually backshift, unless the fact is still true.

They disappear! They are only used to help form questions. Since reported questions use statement order, they are no longer needed.

No. 'He asked where was I' is grammatically incorrect in standard English. You must put the subject first.

Yes! `Wonder` is great for reporting questions you ask yourself or when you don't have a specific person you are asking.

Yes, for the purposes of this rule, `how` behaves exactly like `what`, `where`, and `why`.

Change `will` to `would`. For example, 'When will you call?' becomes 'He asked when I would call.'
