Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To say 'is not' in Persian, use the base 'nist' and add person-specific endings to negate existence or identity.
- For 'I am not', add -am to nist: 'Nistam'.
- For 'You are not', add -i to nist: 'Nisti'.
- For 'He/She/It is not', use 'Nist' alone.
Overview
nist（ニースト）という形を使います。これは、英語の is not に相当する非常に重要な単語です。日本語の文法では、名詞や形容詞の述語に対して「〜ではない」という否定形を作る際、「〜ではないです」や「〜じゃない」といった形をとりますよね。ペルシア語でも同様の役割を果たしますが、その形が「〜ではない」という一つの語彙として独立している点が大きな特徴です。この nist は、肯定形の「〜である」という意味の hast（ハスト）の否定形として、文法上「補足（suppletion）」という現象を起こしています。つまり、肯定形と否定形で全く別の単語が使われるのです。これは皆さんが日本語で「ある」の否定を「ない」と言うのと似た感覚です。日常会話で「これはペンではありません」「私は学生ではありません」といった否定文を作る際、この nist を使いこなせるようになると、表現の幅が一気に広がります。この単語は、初心者の方が最初に出会う「例外的な文法構造」の一つですが、一度ルールを覚えてしまえば、非常にシンプルで使いやすいものですよ。一緒に見ていきましょう。na-（ナ）や ne-（ネ）を付けるのがルールです。例えば、「行く」という動詞 raftan（ラフタン）を否定する場合、ne- を付けて nemī-ravam（私は行きません）となります。しかし、今回学ぶ「〜である（英語のbe動詞に相当）」という動詞 budan（ブーダン）は、このルールに従いません。これこそが、日本語の「ある」が否定になると「ない」という全く別の言葉に変わるのと非常に似ています。nist は、肯定の hast（ハスト）や ast（アスト）とは全く異なる語源を持つため、否定の接頭辞を付ける必要がありません。むしろ、nist という単語自体が「〜ではない」という否定の意味を内包しているのです。そのため、na-nist のように二重否定のような形にする必要はありません。この nist に、主語を示す人称語尾（〜am, 〜i, 〜im, 〜id, 〜and）を付けるだけで、あらゆる主語に対応する否定形が完成します。日本語の「〜ではない」が、主語が変わっても「〜ではない」という形自体は変わらない（丁寧語の「〜じゃありません」等は変わりますが）のに対し、ペルシア語では人称によって語尾が変化する点が少し異なります。この語尾の変化は、日本語の動詞の活用を学んでいる皆さんなら、すぐに慣れることができるはずです。nist という形です。ここに、主語に応じた人称語尾を付け加えます。以下の表で、人称ごとの変化を確認してみましょう。نیستم | nīstam | 私は〜ではない |نیستی | nīstī | あなたは〜ではない |نیست | nīst | 彼/彼女/それは〜ではない |نیستیم | nīstīm | 私たちは〜ではない |نیستید | nīstīd | あなたたちは〜ではない |نیستند | nīstand | 彼らは〜ではない |nīstand が nīstan と略されることもよくあります。まずはこの表をノートに書き写して、声に出して練習してみてください。nist は、名詞や形容詞を否定する際に必須の単語です。具体的には以下のような場面で使われます。- 1職業や身分の否定：
من دکتر نیستم（私は医者ではありません）。日本語の「私は医者ではありません」と全く同じ構造ですね。 - 2状態の否定：
هوا سرد نیست（天気は寒くありません）。形容詞の否定にも使います。 - 3場所の否定：
او اینجا نیست（彼はここにいません）。「〜にいない」という状況を伝えるのに最適です。 - 4存在の否定：三人称単数の
nīstは「〜がない」「〜がいない」という意味でも使われます。例えばپول نیست（お金がない）のように、日常のコンビニでの買い物や、待ち合わせ場所での会話で頻繁に登場します。

na-を付けたくなり*na-nistamのように言ってしまう人がいます。これは英語でI am not not
と言うようなもので、非常に不自然です。nist自体が否定語であることを常に意識しましょう。 - 2語尾の付け忘れ：日本語は述語の語尾が人称で変化しないため、つい全ての主語に対して
nistだけを使ってしまいがちです。*من نیست（私は〜ではない）と言ってしまうと、日本語で「私、〜じゃない」と少し崩れた言い方をするのとは異なり、文法的に不完全な印象を与えます。必ず人称語尾（-am, -ī, など）を付ける癖をつけましょう。 - 3「いいえ（No）」との混同：日本語の「いいえ」は否定の応答ですが、ペルシア語で「いいえ」は
naです。質問に対して「いいえ、違います」と言いたいとき、nistだけで返すと「それは存在しません」という意味に聞こえることがあります。まずはnaと答えるのが自然です。
